Lice in children, treatment at home

Lice in children, treatment at home
Lice in children, treatment at home
Hello! The other day I had to undergo tests in one of the clinics.

Two women stood in line and discussed a popular problem in kindergartens - the presence of lice in children.

It turned out that they are educators. From the conversation it became clear that in the group of one of them there is a child from a dysfunctional family and periodically brings these parasites to the kindergarten, infecting other children.

Another in response recommended a friend to advise parents when lice in children, treatment at home. You can also read it further.

How to get rid of lice and nits at home

Trying to get rid of lice and nits at home, it is worth remembering that lice and nits, in fact, are very different from each other. What acts on lice is completely harmless against nits, and vice versa.

The life cycle of lice is about a month, and from the time of hatching of the female to the first laying it takes about two to three weeks. Accordingly, the course of treatment for pediculosis can be considered completed only if it was carried out for at least a month, and a month after the start of treatment, neither adult insects, nor lice larvae, nor nits (lice eggs) are found on the head.

Important!
The most reliable and affordable way to get rid of lice is, of course, to shave your head baldly. However, for obvious reasons, I really do not want to use it, especially if lice are wound up in a small child.

Fortunately, in recent times a fairly large number of different shampoos and chemicals have appeared in pharmacies that help get rid of parasites, and at the same time do not have an excessively strong effect on the scalp.

By and large, the treatment of pediculosis can be divided into two stages: mechanical and chemical.

Mechanical removal of lice and nits from hair and scalp

First of all, it is worthwhile to carefully examine the scalp, wash it with a special rinse shampoo and comb it thoroughly with a special comb. Such combs for combing lice are sold in pharmacies and are characterized by a very small (only 0.2 mm) distance between the teeth: such a frequent comb allows you to relatively reliably comb out lice and nits from the head.

Attention!
After each combing, the comb must be thoroughly wiped with a white cloth or paper towel. Scrubbing is carried out every day for a month.

It should be understood that the rinse shampoo itself does not work on lice, it simply facilitates combing them. Yes, and combing itself, without the use of anti-pedicular agents, may not be very effective: there is always a risk of missing one insect, and lice larvae are too small to be combed out reliably.

Chemical effects on lice and nits

After combing, the hair should be treated with a special anti-pediculosis remedy bought at a pharmacy. You should not use folk remedies, such as a tansy decoction or sunflower oil: to put it mildly, they are not very effective, and hair after them will never become the same again.

Kerosene acts especially adversely on the hair and scalp: washing the baby’s head with kerosene, and even more so wrapping it with polyethylene afterwards, you run the risk of getting chronic contact dermatitis of the scalp, which is practically untreatable, and permanently depriving your child of a beautiful and silky hair.

It is also worth remembering that a single treatment of the hair with an anti-pedicular agent is not enough: the treatment must be repeated 8-10 days after the procedure, as well as 16-20 (that is, you need to treat the head three times during the course of treatment).

These funds have contraindications: pregnancy and allergies. Treatment of pediculosis with chemicals in infants is carried out only after consultation with the doctor.

Prevention of re-infection with pediculosis

In addition, all personal belongings of the child must be washed in a car at a temperature not lower than 60 degrees Celsius, and those that cannot be washed must be kept in a tightly closed plastic bag for at least three consecutive days (lice die without contact with the owner’s skin, at the latest , 55 hours after the last feeding).

It will be absolutely not out of place to examine the hair of all other family members, as well as people who have contacted the child, just in case: pediculosis is a rather contagious disease.

Advice!
The treatment of pediculosis at home is always difficult, lengthy and requires quite considerable effort. And only if a month after the start of treatment, the doctor, after examining the scalp, says that there are no adult lice, nits, or larvae on the skin, it can be considered that the treatment was completed successfully.

To summarize popular examples of getting rid of lice and nits at home:

  • In order to get rid of head lice, it is necessary to comb out lice with a comb with very small and frequent teeth.
  • The most radical, fastest and most reliable method in the fight against head lice may be a haircut, but not everyone will want to use this method.
  • An old method of dealing with lice is to brush hair with kerosene and wrap your head well with a towel. Keep less than 2 hours, after which kerosene is washed off well, and comb your hair.
  • It is very effective and useful to rub cranberry juice into the scalp; it removes nits from the hair. This must be done for 5-7 days.
  • In a glass of water add two tablespoons of vinegar, moisten the head well with a solution. After which the hair is combed well. Vinegar dissolves well the glue that attaches nits to the hair, while lice become less active.
  • Hair coloring helps women in the treatment of head lice. A terrible weapon for lice is hydrogen peroxide, due to its chemical formula it removes all insects.
  • You can prepare the following remedy for pediculosis treatment. To do this, pour two tablespoons of mint herb with one 200 g glass of pomegranate juice, it is advisable to use natural juice, boil for ten minutes. It is necessary to apply for local rubbing into the scalp.
  • Dustov soap also helps very well, this tool was used by our parents.

When combating clothes lice, it is necessary to iron very carefully iron all seams that can only be on clothes when ironing, most often they lay eggs. Now a lot of funds for eliminating lice can be bought at a pharmacy: ointment with benzyl benzoate 15%, sulfur ointment, emulsion benzyl benzoate 20% - from very affordable and effective drugs.

Spregal helps very well, but this tool is not cheap. Folk remedies for getting rid of lice are of course very good. The effectiveness of these funds is approximately 90%. Of course, these funds can be used at home, but with great care, and you should be aware that:

  1. when using kerosene, you should remember and know that the hair can not be put in order for quite a long time. Kerosene is oily and therefore washed off for a long time thereby spoiling the hair, therefore it is not recommended to use kerosene for long hair;
  2. vinegar dries hair very much, and a concentrated vinegar solution can burn your scalp. Vinegar can destroy only lice and have a disinfecting effect, but it will not save you from nits;
  3. This still gives some discomfort and itching of the head when using folk remedies: after applying any folk remedy, you need to put a plastic bag on the hair of your head and wrap your head with a mohair towel - you should wear such a bandage on your head for at least 2 hours.

Letters from our readers:

Hit the lice with cranberry juice.

We take a handful of cranberries (for fluffy hair 2-3 handfuls), squeeze out the juice and grease the hair roots, rub the rest (together with the skin) over all the hair. We cover our heads with cellophane, tie a scarf and leave everything to dry for about 3 hours. Then we wash our hair and comb it with a comb. Effective and safe. One session was enough for us.

Important!
I want to share with you methods of dealing with lice and nits in children. I have a little daughter, she is 2 years and 7 months old. Recently, I noticed nits in her hair. I did not see lice. Naturally, I started to panic, where did they come from ?!

I am a very clean person. I change bed sheets every week, my child’s head every other day, I iron all the linen with a steam iron at maximum. Well, so I went to the pharmacy and bought Nyx, smeared my daughter for 10 minutes, washed it off. And nits as they were and continued to be alive.

After 4 hours, I purchased Para Plus Spray, smeared my daughter, but after about 5 minutes she began to have a hysterics, as the product can be seen not only to destroy lice and nits, but also the scalp (the instructions say that it can be used from 2 years 6 months).

The head turned red, the child was hysterical, had to call an ambulance. They looked and advised to anoint Fenistil-gel. But we are not talking about that now. As a result, the nits continued to live their own lives, and the scalp was burned (thank God not very much). Oh yes, I forgot to say that my daughter has hair below her shoulders and curls. It’s a pity to cut such beauty. I began to comb them out and choose manually.

And I washed her head with baby shampoo, but only added 3-4 drops of tea tree oil there. Soaps 2 times a day. After 3 washes, all the nits died. And in addition to everything, I stroked her hair once a day in the evening with a hair straightener.

Of course, bed sheets in the morning and evening ironed with steam. Towels were washed every day in water with powder and added there 10 drops of tea tree. After each use, combs and elastic bands for hair were soaked in hot water with vinegar for 2-3 hours, or even dead at night.

Attention!
I can only say one thing that I brought out all these “guests” in 3 days. Tea tree is really power. But the well-publicized Para Plus almost left my daughter without hair. And by the way, you can also apply tea tree oil for the ears on the nape of the neck, but only on the hairs, on the skin you can not burn. Lice and nits are very afraid of its smell.

And when with a shampoo with oil you wash your head at lice and nits, the respiratory system is paralyzed and they die.So such things. May God all of you deal with this misfortune as soon as possible. soaked. After all this, everything !!!!! Today I found only one nits, and even that is dead. I can only say one thing that I brought out all these “guests” in 3 days. Tea tree is really power.

Treatment for lice and head lice at home

Treatment for lice and head lice at home
Treatment for lice and head lice at home
If you decide to be treated for lice and nits at home, then you should consider that nits and lice have significant differences.

If some remedy can kill lice, then this does not mean that it also has a detrimental effect on nits.

Lice live only one month. From the time that the female hatched and until the moment of its first laying, 2-3 weeks can pass. And this means that you need to remove lice for a whole month. Then you can permanently get rid of nits, lice and their larvae.

The most affordable and popular way to recover from head lice is to shave your hair. However, from an aesthetic point of view, this is not a very pleasant way of treatment, especially for girls.

To date, in pharmacies you can buy a variety of remedies for lice. These are chemicals and shampoos. Such drugs will help to remove parasites, and at the same time will not cause any harm to the skin on the head, as well as hair.

Treatment for lice can be divided into two stages. The first is chemical, and the second is mechanical.

Mechanical stage

Thoroughly combing out fine comb lice and nits from the head and removing them.

Mechanical removal steps:

  • First you need to carefully examine the hair, then you need to wash your hair with a special, therapeutic shampoo.
  • After washing, while the hair is still wet, you need to try to comb out the parasites with a small comb.
  • To comb lice you need a special comb.

It is sold in a pharmacy and the distance between its teeth is 0.2 millimeters. This comb is good because you are unlikely to miss at least one insect or nits. When combing your hair, immediately prepare a clean, white, cotton towel.

Advice!
It will be necessary so that every time you comb out the parasites, put them on a towel. This way you will see if you got lice out of your head or not. This procedure should be carried out daily, for a month.

If you use a special shampoo, do not think that it will poison lice. He will only help comb them out. After all, if you do not use such a shampoo, comb out parasites, it will be very difficult and ineffective.

Chemical stage of exposure

Chemical steps for parasites

After you carefully comb your hair, treat your head with a special medicine for head lice, which you will need to buy in a pharmacy. After that, repeat this procedure after 10 days, and then another two weeks later. Thus, the chemical phase consists of three procedures.

When you buy an anti-pediculant in a pharmacy, carefully read the insert leaflet. Make sure that this medicine does not have contraindications, for example, such as allergies and pregnancy. If you are treating a baby, then be sure to consult your doctor before doing this.

Many people try to get rid of lice by resorting to traditional medicine. Among such methods are known: washing the head with a decoction of tansy, spreading with sunflower oil and kerosene. Such funds are ineffective, especially since there is a threat of contracting chronic dermatitis, scalp.

How not to get infected with pediculosis again. Prevention

Bed linen and clothes should be washed in very hot water. Those things that cannot be treated with water should be put in a plastic bag and let them lie there for a week. Without food, lice cannot live and die.

Important!
It is also necessary to check the hair of the whole family, since pediculosis is a contagious disease and therefore it can easily go to other people who are constantly nearby. Treating this disease at home is a rather difficult task.

Moreover, it is a very long time, so you need to be very patient. After a month of treatment, you must definitely go to the doctor so that he professionally examines the head and confirms that there are no more lice and nits. If the disease has not passed, you will need to be treated again according to the same scheme.

Examples of cure for pediculosis at home

You need to comb out lice, larvae and nits with a special comb with small teeth. Haircuts are the fastest and most effective method. Suitable for those who do not have long-term treatment, time and patience.

  • You can get rid of lice by spreading kerosene on your head and wrapping it with a towel. Kerosene should be on the head for 2 hours, and then the hair should be washed well.
  • Effective cranberry juice. It is rubbed into the skin and then the nits themselves peel off from the hair.
  • Table vinegar has a similar effect. It is necessary to prepare an acidic solution. To do this, mix three tablespoons of vinegar with 300 milliliters of water and moisten the hair. Then the hair needs to be combed. The fact is that nits are attached to the hair with the glue that they secrete, and vinegar dissolves this glue. Also, lice from vinegar become lethargic.
  • There is another interesting way. But it is suitable only for women. This remedy is hair coloring. The fact is that hydrogen peroxide can kill insects.
  • Folk remedy. Mix a glass of pomegranate juice with peppermint - 3 tablespoons and boil for 10 - 15 minutes. This broth needs to be rubbed into the head.
  • Our close ancestors used dust soap in the fight against lice.

There are also so-called clothes lice. Such things need to be ironed, especially at the seams, since it is there that lice lay their eggs.

Today in the pharmacy you can buy a lot of effective means to combat lice. These are Spregal, an emulsion of benzyl benzoate, sulfuric ointment, and an ointment with benzyl benzoate.

Some precautions for the treatment of pediculosis, at home, folk remedies

  • Folk remedies are 90% effective. applying some of them you need to be extremely careful.
  • If you decide to use kerosene, you should know that this tool will very spoil your hair, and then they will not return to normal soon.
  • If you rinse your head with vinegar, it will dry your hair. Vinegar is also harmful only to lice, and nits will remain.
  • When using folk remedies, you may experience itching on the scalp and discomfort.
  • Proper treatment of folk remedies.

After you apply this or that remedy, to destroy lice, put a plastic bag on your head and wrap your head on top with a warm handkerchief or a thick towel, you need to be in this condition for two hours, and then wash off the product.

How to get rid of lice and nits at home

Head, pubic, body lice

In the overwhelming majority of cases, low-income disadvantaged sections of the population who do not follow basic hygiene standards and simply do not know how to get rid of lice in case of infection suffer from pediculosis most often, therefore they infect everyone around.

Tidy people who take care of themselves, but do not carry out regular preventive measures, also run the risk of contracting infection, since it is easier to parasitize these insects on clean scalp, because it is without greasy cover.

Species of Lice

Pediculosis is caused by insects that parasitize animals and humans - lice. There are 3 varieties on a person: head, pubic and body lice. The first species lives on the head.The second (ploschitsa) parasitizes on the pubis, inner side of the thighs, perineum, hairline of the underfoot, eyelashes, eyebrows and other facial hair.

Attention!
The third type (linen) lives in clothes, bedding, comes in contact with the body several times a day. Lice feed on blood and lymph, have a size of 0.5-1 mm, have a brown or dark gray color, proboscis, legs with claws, live on a person 35-38 days or a little more than a month, without blood for no more than a week.

They multiply rapidly by laying eggs (nits), from which offspring hatch within a week. Lice go through 4 stages of development: nits, larvae, nymphs, and mature individuals. They can be carriers of epidemic diseases, the most dangerous of which are: rash, relapsing fever.

Head lice attach eggs to glue on the root of the hair, and lice lay eggs in the seams of clothes. Larvae hatching from nits develop within 3 weeks.

Causes and factors of infection with lice

Infection occurs only through direct contact, since lice crawl rather than jump like fleas: when the hair touches, through household items and personal hygiene products (hats, hats, bedding and pillows, hairpins).

You can get lice in a public place, a hairdresser, a hotel, a bathhouse, a locker room, in crowded places, at the time of a group photo of a "selfie". More likely to pick lice for people with long hair, braids, and not a short haircut.

Children are most prone to pediculosis; they become infected in groups in kindergarten, school, on vacation in summer camps and other children's institutions. When lice appear in one child, the entire team can become infected very quickly, therefore quarantine is often introduced to prevent an epidemic.

Symptoms of infection

The first symptoms of pediculosis infection are local itching in the hairline behind the ears, in the temples, nape, crown of the head, pubis, body, skin irritation, bluish bite marks. As soon as you notice such symptoms, you need to examine the head as soon as possible and begin treatment.

Advice!
With a running disease, getting rid of lice and nits is much more difficult, since strong scratches are present on the infected person’s head, pustules, boils can be found, and his general malaise, nervous state, and loss of appetite can be observed. From constant bites, the infected person loses sleep, scarlet allergic rashes become more noticeable on his skin.

We get rid of lice and nits by combing (mechanical method)

Lice can not be killed with water, soap, ordinary shampoo or washing powder, but against them you can successfully use drugs from a pharmacy or alternative methods. However, no matter what means you use at home, you can finally get rid of nits only mechanically when combing them out with a comb (AntiV, Nit Free, Liceguard) or picking out with your hands.

In the process of combing, chemicals can be applied to the hair that destroy adults, or balms, oils, which simply provide a sliding effect when combing.

The combing is carried out according to the following scheme, usually in rubber gloves, while making sure that the solutions do not get into the eyes and mouth:

  1. Hair is washed with shampoo (when applying medicinal chemicals with conditioner, do not wash).
  2. They are processed with a pharmacy or folk remedy with an exposure time of 5 minutes to 2 hours, or moistened with vegetable oil, fish oil, petroleum jelly, mayonnaise.
  3. Dry with a towel (when using alcohol compounds, the hairdryer should not be used).
  4. After the chemical preparation is treated with a weak solution of vinegar.
  5. Lice are combed over the strands with a special comb with a dense row of long frequent teeth.
  6. Nits in hard to reach places are removed with nails.
  7. The applied products are washed off with soap or shampoo.

In case of recurrence of pediculosis, the procedure is repeated after 7 days. Combs and combs that participated in the combing procedure are boiled or soaked in alcohol.

Shaving in bulk is the safest and 100% effective method that helps to remove nits 1 time for head lice, the most convenient method for removing lice with pubic lice. The use of this method is not always justified, in some cases it is better to shorten the hair to the shoulders, but not to shave off completely.

Pharmacy products

Get rid of lice and nits by combing
Get rid of lice and nits by combing
It is quite easy to get rid of lice and nits with the help of medicines from the pharmacy - they do not give a 100% guarantee and often do not have ovicidal (from nits) action, but when used 1-2 times they are very effective.

Some have a neurotoxic effect (they destroy the nervous system of parasites): Medifox, NOC, Nittifor, Pedilin, Veda-2, Hygia, Lauri, Nyx.

Others have a physical dehydration, occlusal effect (dehydrate the body, block the airways of lice): Nit Free, Nyuda, Full Marx, Paranit, Rosh Tov.

Important!
Some drugs have a long-lasting effect and prevent re-infection. Boric, mercury ointment, 5% benzyl alcohol have very good disinfectant properties, so they are smeared with skin after bites of pubic and body lice.

Modern therapeutic ointments, aerosols, sprays, solutions, lotions and shampoos are available with the active substances Permethrin, Piretrin, Sumitrin, Malathion, Fenotrin, Dimethicone, Cyclomethicone - parasites adapt to some of them and develop resistance.

Pharmacy preparations contain pesticides, so they must be used strictly according to the instructions, and preferably under the supervision of a specialist. Preparations with a synthetic composition often cause allergies, dandruff, and, if overdosed, lead to poisoning, therefore it is contraindicated in children under 2-5 years old, pregnant and lactating women, people with allergies, people with skin diseases.

Sprays are contraindicated in persons with asthma and should not be sprayed in their presence. Weakly toxic drugs with a low concentration of insecticides are the safest, but they should be applied to children and pregnant women only after consulting a doctor.

After the destruction of lice and nits, people always sanitize furniture, carpets, floors and walls of the premises, wash at high temperature or boil bedding, clothes, towels, soft toys, iron them with a steam iron - all these are additional measures that help to kill parasites finally.

Attention!
If it is impossible to heat-treat the laundry, it can be impregnated with insecticidal preparations, dry for a long time in the sun, and dry cleaned. Extremely high or low temperature kills lice in a short time.

In order to prevent pediculosis, you need to check all family members, avoid contact with homeless people, vagabonds, unscrupulous people, try not to visit places where there is frank unsanitary conditions.

Folk remedies

If you can’t use pharmacy drugs based on chemical or synthetic poisons, you can try to get rid of lice and nits with folk remedies, but you need to remember that they can also be dangerous, and are only 90% effective, and in addition almost always require re-application .

Advice!
If you are a woman and dye your hair, you can use hair dye with hydrogen peroxide, it kills adult parasites and nits at the same time.

At your own risk, you can soak your hair with kerosene (if desired, dilute 1 to 1 vegetable oil) and put a plastic bag on your head. Kerosene strangles adult lice well, but not nits. At the same time, kerosene harms hair and skin, makes them oily, makes combing difficult. Due to toxicity, it cannot be kept on the head for longer than 20-30 minutes.

Vinegar 9%, diluted with water 1 to 2, also helps to kill adult lice and their larvae, but can not cope with the shell of the eggs, although to some extent it dissolves, weakens the nits glue.A solution of vinegar 3-4.5% spoils the structure of the hair and dries the skin, causing pain in the wound.

You can turn to herbal remedies and use cranberry berry juice. It is rubbed into the hair roots and skin for 2-3 hours, at night they put a plastic bag on his head. In order to soften the capsules of the nits, the composition must be of a strong concentration, so several handfuls of cranberries should be taken with 250 ml of water.

Even a strong concentration of cranberry juice is not enough to get rid of all the lice at a time, so the procedure must be repeated all week. Chemeric water is used from medical solutions, it is applied to the hair along its entire length for 2-3 hours and kept under a plastic bag.

The application is repeated after 7 days, but no more than 3 times due to the toxic composition. The tool is insecticidal, so it should not be used for prevention. Essential oils of anise, tea tree, lavender scare away and kill lice, in some cases with nits.

Important!
They antiseptically act on the skin, soften it, and relieve itching. The oils are rubbed into the roots of the hair, distributed over their entire length and incubated for 2-3 hours. If you do not have allergies, anise oil, tea tree, lavender can be applied in the form of a few drops to the skin for prevention - their aromas repel parasites well.

Tar and laundry soap are effective due to the high concentration of alkali, but tar tar is better to use, since tar softens and heals the skin, and the composition of laundry soap is very dry.

Dust soap should not be used, since dust is highly toxic and dangerous to humans. Dichlorvos is also dangerous, it contains organophosphorus components, which, during intoxication of the human body, cause irreparable harm to his health.

Attention!
As a folk remedy, you can use the “Charm” varnish - it contains liquid silicone oils, so it acts on the principle of dimethicone, blocking the flow of oxygen into the airways of lice and nits. Varnish is applied to the hair for the whole night, the head is wrapped with a towel or plastic bag.

Another truly folk remedy - finely chopped onions, garlic. Porridge with juice is rubbed into the roots of the hair for 2-3 hours, washed off with a weak solution of vinegar, citric acid or shampoo. This method, due to the caustic composition, harms the skin, irritates it, and can lead to burns.

Against lice, it is often recommended to use a decoction of tansy, wormwood, mint and pomegranate juice - boiled solutions are cooled and rubbed into the hair roots. These formulations are ineffective and can only to some extent help with combing.

Essential oils of peppermint, geranium, lemon, aloe vera, sage, calendula are more suitable for the prevention of head lice, they have repellent rather than therapeutic properties, although they can clog lice spiracles in a high concentration in specialized preparations.

Ledum, angelica - dried and ground poisonous plants are mixed with fat, applied to the hair several times during the week. Plants are toxic, can cause allergies and, with careless actions, poisoning, so this folk method of dealing with nits is unsafe.

Larkiness - grass is mixed with citric acid 1 to 2, applied to the hair and scalp. Procedures involving folk remedies need to be completed by washing them off, and combined with mechanical hair combing with a special comb with frequent teeth and sharp laser notches.

How to remove lice with the help of folk remedies?

Noticing that your child scratches his head too often and actively and, having found parasites in his hair, do not rush to scold him or blame yourself - you can wash seven times a day, change clothes fifteen times, but still get lice.

Where do lice come from, you ask? Insects do not live on animals, do not live in water, on land or on plants, they are transmitted only from person to person. During close and prolonged contact with the parasite carrier.

This can happen:

  • In public transport;
  • In a pool or other body of water, where there are many bathers (a louse swims perfectly, creeps confidently)
  • At the summer camp;
  • At the hairdresser (if the tools were poorly processed after the previous client);
  • In line with the doctor, for a ticket for a concert, etc .;
  • When using someone else's comb, hat or even a scarf;
  • Through the pillow, if the carrier was sleeping on it, and after that the linen was not changed;
  • In the wardrobe of a theater, clinic, school, lice can crawl from clothes to clothes;
  • In kindergarten or school, from one child to another;

In fact, you can become infected with head lice in any public place if there is an infected person there. You will be surprised, but cleanly washed hair is a more favorable habitat for lice than dirty hair.

Advice!
The parasite is more convenient to move around, easier to eat. So, do not consider your child dirty, do not scold him for the “gift” brought home, but do not reproach yourself for not seeing it.

Nervous Lice: Myths and Reality

Can parasites result from severe nervous stress? Disputes on this topic have been going on for more than one year, since there are cases that are arguments in favor of a positive answer.

For example, a friend of mine told me that when she was eight years old, her grandmother got into an accident, the whole family lived in terrible stress for a week, hoping that everything would work out. However, it did.

She received news of her grandmother’s death at night, and her mother frightened the girl with a heart-rending cry that she began to itch in the morning, and in the evening she was washed with kerosene to get rid of lice. But whether there really were lice, she does not remember.

How to explain this, if the belief that insect eggs are under the skin of each person’s head and can be “activated” in the event of a severe shock is wrong? Hundreds of studies have refuted this theory; it was not possible to detect larvae or nits in the scalp.

Some doctors believe that this phenomenon is akin to “false pregnancy” - there are actually no lice, but there is only an unpleasant illusion that someone is crawling on the head. A person needs to be given a sedative medicine, to ensure peace, and within a few hours the symptoms will disappear.

Important!
But the fact that during the period of experiences, immunity drops dramatically is an indisputable fact. It has been proven that adrenaline and norepinephrine ("stress hormones") have a specific smell that attracts insects.

Together, this can lead to pediculosis infection even with minimal contact with the carrier. It will be more difficult to get rid of parasites than in a calm state. Therefore, if there is even the slightest risk, it is worthwhile to devote time to prevention.

How not to get infected: preventative measures

To avoid unpleasant procedures for the elimination of insects, you need to instill in your child a few simple rules of behavior:

  • Strictly prohibit the use of someone else's hairbrushes, towels, headphones and hair accessories;
  • Strictly forbid sleeping in the same bed with a friend in a summer or school camp (girls like to share secrets in the evening, hiding under a blanket);
  • Strictly forbid changing clothes with friends and girlfriends (often girls lend each other skirts, blouses, elastic bands, rims);
  • Strictly prohibit swimming in the pool, in the river, in the lake without a rubber cap. Only in her, and only in her own!
  • To accustom to obligatory daily water procedures, change of clothes and underwear;

There are more active preventive measures:

  • Wash bedding at maximum temperature and without fail to iron on both sides;
  • Briefly cut the baby's hair, boys can be almost under zero;
  • Use folk remedies that repel insects: hellebore water, lavender oil, tea tree oil - drip behind the ears and on top of the head. Apply strictly according to the instructions, as a rule, drugs are toxic!
  • Once a week, wash your hair with dust soap or a special shampoo (sold in pharmacies);

It is impossible to stay with children around the clock, which means they will definitely break the rules and forget about safety measures. Given this, inspect at least once a week. You can do it yourself, or you can resort to the help of specialists.

Lice in a child, what to do?

Pediculosis is easily recognized by its symptoms:

  • Constant severe itching of the scalp (parasites crawl, feed on blood);
  • There are spots on the head, small pimples (they can be seen at the roots of the hair, on the forehead, above the ears, if the disease is started, they can spread to the neck and shoulders);
  • If pediculosis is started, the lymph nodes behind the ears swell;

Treatment should be started immediately, otherwise there is a risk of complications. A child can comb his head to bloody wounds and bring a dangerous infection, then the help of doctors can no longer do. The sooner you start treatment, the more chances you can manage yourself at home. So, how to remove lice from a child?

Means against lice and nits for children

The most common and simple folk method is to wash your hair with kerosene. The method is ancient and effective. Kerosene affects insects in a complex way:

Poisons adult parasites and larvae:

  1. Nits under the influence of kerosene lose their ability to cling to hair;
  2. The pungent odor repels insects, lasts a long time and does not give a chance to rare surviving individuals;
An adult needs a glass of kerosene to treat the head; a tablespoon is enough for the child. Before starting the procedure, mix kerosene with two teaspoons of regular shampoo, add the same amount of olive oil. This will protect the delicate baby skin from burns. Carefully process dry hair with a cotton swab, put on a warming cap on top, leave for an hour.

Rinse with water with the addition of vinegar or citric acid, this will strengthen the effect. And only then rinse your hair with shampoo. The final stage is combing with a frequent comb, preferably wooden or metal, so that the insects are clearly visible. Typically, kerosene eliminates parasites after a single use. But it is better to repeat the procedure in three days. For warranty.

How to remove lice in a child with vinegar

A potent treatment for pediculosis is vinegar. It should be used with the same caution as kerosene, since the drug is caustic, can leave serious burns on the skin. In its pure form, vinegar is not used to destroy lice and nits. For processing, you need to prepare a mixture: one part of 9% vinegar (not essence!) In two parts of water.

Further:

  • The product is applied to dry, thoroughly combed hair;
  • A plastic bag is put on top or a scarf is tightly tied;
  • Leave for half an hour;
  • Remove the cap and comb out the hair thoroughly (over the newspaper, sheet or over the sink);
  • Rinse hair with shampoo several times.

Vinegar is slightly weaker in strength than kerosene, so the procedure must be repeated after a week.

Another folk remedy for the treatment of lice in children is the use of hellebore water. You can buy it at any pharmacy.

This is a mixture of alcohol tincture from a medicinal plant (Lobel’s hellebore) and ordinary water, but so toxic that it helps to get rid of lice and nits the first time.

For humans, it is no less dangerous, even a milligram of tincture, which has got inside the body, can cause severe poisoning, so you must strictly observe safety precautions.

Before applying chemeric water, check for wounds and scratches on the child’s head. If there is damage to the skin - it is forbidden to use the product! If everything is normal, process according to the scheme:

  • Wash your hair;
  • Apply with a cotton swab to damp hair (especially carefully on the back of the head, temples, and behind the ears);
  • Insulate and leave for half an hour;
  • Rinse off with running water first, then again, using shampoo;
  • Comb out insects with a frequent comb;

Be careful not to get the tincture in your child’s mouth, nose, or eyes.Please note that doctors do not recommend the use of hellebore water to remove lice in children under 12 years old! And it is better to treat children of kindergarten age with special shampoos, there are a lot of them in pharmacies today.

The unconventional method: conspiracy from lice

There is another method of getting rid of lice, which has been preserved since ancient times - a conspiracy. About a hundred and fifty years ago, meeting a doctor in the village was very rare. Healed the inhabitants of everything in the world - healers, healers, witches and witches. And in their rituals, the power of the word played an important role. Toothache and headache started.

Important!
Whispered prayers, taking birth or applying a healing ointment to a lacerated wound. And always a conspiracy was part of the ritual, almost never - an independent action. Nobody forbids today, at the same time as treating the head with a means, to cheer yourself and your child with a “magic word”.

There is even a certain benefit in this - the child will perceive this as a game, which will reduce the level of negative experiences, relieve him of stress. Here are a couple of harmless spells:

“Just as they sweep brooms in the house, as they sweep away the rubbish from the huts, so do I. Yes, I will be revenge with water, but I will take all lice out of my head and hair. Go away, lice, run away, but never return to the servant of God (name). My word is strong, the will is strong, everything will be as I said. Amen".

“Let's go away from my child dirty lice, annoying lice! As a month wanes and disappears, so it will take you all with it, to the dark side, empty and woeful, so that you will not return here forever and will not turn around to our house. As the moon is waning, not a single louse of the servant of God (the name of the child) knows forever! ”

Final stage

All family members need treatment for pediculosis, even if someone is sick. Be sure to wash in the most hot water and steam the linens and clothes from both sides. It will not be superfluous to inform close relatives and friends of troubles so that they carry out prophylaxis.

How to get rid of lice in folk ways

There is an opinion that only low-income and untidy people have lice. In fact, this view is erroneous. Any person can become infected with head lice in a public place.

Mostly, our children, who bring such “gifts” from kindergartens, schools and summer camps, become the carriers of this delicate disease. To get rid of lice in our time, it seems, is not a problem - there are a lot of different ointments, sprays, shampoos.

Attention!
As practice shows, all these new-fangled little things do not help everyone and not always. Today we will tell you folk ways to get rid of lice. These tools also act selectively, so if one method did not help you, try the next. Be sure to get a scallop with frequent small cloves.

In the war against parasites, he will be the main and indispensable weapon. Cranberry juice helps many people get rid of lice very effectively. Squeeze the juice from 1-2 handfuls of cranberry berries, rub it into the scalp and distribute it through the hair.

Put a plastic bag over your head and tie it with a scarf. Keep the composition on your head until completely dry, 3-4 hours, you can leave it overnight. Wash your hair and comb with a frequent comb. It is advisable to repeat the procedure daily for 1 week.

Instead of cranberry juice, you can use vinegar solution: for 1 glass of water - 2 tablespoons of vinegar. Cheremic water will also help to remove lice. Rub water into the roots and wet your hair, wrap it with a bag and a handkerchief and leave it for 2-3 hours or overnight.

Then wash your hair and comb out lice and nits with a frequent comb. Repeat the procedure after 7-10 days 3-4 times. For prevention, you can then use the method 1 time per month. Another way to get rid of lice is to use aniseed oil.

It, in addition, has a beneficial effect on the scalp and relieves itching.Thoroughly rub the oil into the roots of the hair and spread over the entire length, hold for 3-4 hours, wash your hair and comb out the hair with a small comb.

Advice!
You can remove lice in the following way: Finely chop the onion, add 2 egg yolks, rub into the head and distribute through the hair. Rinse the composition after 1-2 hours, rinse with water and lemon juice to get rid of the smell of onions, and wash your hair with shampoo.

The amazing thing is, but lice die from hydrogen peroxide. Therefore, a rather interesting and simple way to get rid of them is to dye your hair with dye with peroxide. We have examined ways to get rid of lice that do not cause any discomfort or harm to the scalp and hair.

There are still extreme methods - using kerosene, the old fashioned way. If you decide to apply them, then be very careful. At the first sign of discomfort, pain and burning sensation, flush away all products immediately!

You can smear your head with just kerosene, wrap it with a bag and a handkerchief, and after 20 minutes rinse and comb out everything with a comb. And you can bring lice with a mixture of equal parts of kerosene and vegetable oil. Using a cotton swab, apply the composition to the hair, cover with a tight bag, tie a scarf tight.

After 20 minutes, wash your hair thoroughly and comb out the dead lice and nits with a small scallop. A couple more tips: it is important not only to get rid of lice, but also to take preventive measures to avoid their new appearance:

  • Be sure to check the heads of other family members for nits and lice;
  • replace all bedding. It would be better to boil it;
  • iron with the iron at the highest possible temperature all the clothes that you wore when you had pediculosis and were treated;
  • boil all the combs.

Pediculosis in a child - how to fight at home

How to remove lice from a child
How to remove lice from a child
How to remove lice from a child - this question quite often arises among mothers of children from 3 to 11 - 12 years old. Small parasites are populated on the scalp and feed on human blood.

As a rule, lice live on their heads for about 2 months, but during this time they manage to lay dozens of eggs - nits, so they will not be able to get rid of them in an easy way.

In addition, nits have the ability to firmly attach to the hair.

On one hair in a child can be up to 5 nits at a time. By themselves, lice do not pose a serious danger, except for aesthetics and eternal itching, but they can be a carrier of infectious diseases. Also, with the help of lice, a skin disease such as lice is transferred. Doctors use the same term when writing out a diagnosis on an outpatient card.

Causes of Lice

Many parents have developed stereotypes that lice can appear only if personal hygiene rules are not followed. But in fact, these small parasites can appear even on a clean head in children.

Important!
Infection can occur when the hair is in close contact with the focus of this infection. This can happen when a child puts on someone else's hat, uses someone else's comb, or when someone has already slept before him on a bed in a kindergarten.

To avoid such an unpleasant disease and not to suffer from the question of how to remove parasites, you need to inform the child about the rules of personal hygiene and about personal items that only the child can use.

Symptoms of Pediculosis

The first symptom of the appearance of lice in a child, which is immediately visible, is severe itching of the head. The child constantly scratches his head, along with this, he may experience irritability, loss of appetite and even insomnia. In combed places on the head, ulcers can form, which contribute to the aggravation of the situation.

That is why parents are recommended from time to time to look at the child’s head for lice. And if the parasites themselves are quite difficult to meet, then their eggs are easy to find. Nits have an oblong shape of white or transparent color and are well attached to the roots of the hair, and can also be located along the entire length of the hair.

Ways to remove lice

Before you ask yourself how to remove parasites in a child, you need to understand that lice can form in absolutely any person and the reason for this can be not only non-compliance with personal hygiene. Do not scold your child, because the child may already be in a state of depression. You can get rid of small parasites at home, so do not worry.

Attention!
The fastest way to get rid of parasites is to use a special shampoo. Especially this method will be convenient for girls with long hair. The only problem is that such shampoos can not always save the child from parasite eggs. In this case, they will have to be combed out and killed on their own, pressing on each nits with two nails.

In some cases, doctors prescribe medications to rid children of head lice. They can be Pedilin, Parasidosis or Nittifor. All drugs are sold over the counter in pharmacies and are quite effective.

Alternative methods of treatment

At home, in addition to medicines, you can also use folk remedies. One of the effective methods is washing your hair with tar soap or dust soap. Lice are afraid of alkali, which is contained in these funds. You can also remove parasites in children by washing hair with diluted vinegar, and then comb the head well with a comb.

Perhaps the most effective way to get rid of lice at home is a haircut. True, removing parasites by this method is not always possible. It will be a pity to cut long hair that has been growing for several years.

You can rid a child of lice on his head in the old proven way using kerosene. Kerosene needs to be lubricated with all hair, covered with a bag and left for several hours, and preferably all night.

Advice!
Lice and nits will die during this time, it remains only to thoroughly rinse the head and clean the hair of the remaining parasite eggs. This is one of the most effective methods of dealing with lice folk remedies, but it also has several disadvantages. Firstly, kerosene is poorly washed off, and secondly, it spoils the hair.

You can remove parasites with the help of a burdock. To do this, collect the plant, rinse with water and pour boiling water. When the broth is infused for an hour, it should be filtered. After this, you can save the child from pediculosis.

When the question of how to rid a child of lice has been resolved, it is necessary to boil all the bedding, and then iron it thoroughly on both sides. This is done in order to prevent re-infection of the disease. To prevent the disease, the baby’s head should be periodically checked and monitored for personal hygiene.

Moreover, we had never encountered such a problem before and took the child’s scratching for allergies. And even for several days they drank allergy medications, as the daughter is prone to allergic reactions. what was the horror when in the morning, braiding my daughter, I saw something running around her head !!! We recovered quickly, thanks to the girl from the pharmacy who suggested a good drug. And now I have a golden rule - on the bathing day I carefully examine the children for lice.

  3. All this muck is an accessory of the marginal strata of the population! Where can I see a respectable person with lice? I think the answer is obvious - nowhere. Which of these is the conclusion? Yes, not to be in such places and not to communicate with "dysfunctional" people, which will be more difficult. No matter what special equipment you use, if you are associated with a hotbed of this infection, nothing will help you!

  4. The review of Ivan, to be honest, surprised me. As a teacher, I’ll say that it is easy to get infected in a kindergarten group. One brought, and the infection went for a walk. Marginal strata of society have nothing to do with it. I have a sadovskiy child, and when the group was quarantined, I and several other mothers used the Nit Free spray. Rosemary spray repels lice well and is safe for children. This is a guarantee that your child will avoid getting infected.

  5. In addition to all kinds of drugs, there are special services for removing lice at the client’s home. In Russia, Lyce Away is popular. A year ago, I had to get to know them better. Here they are, just the same, they are removed by thorough combing. When the specialist arrived, she examined all the tenants. I combed out lice (mostly nits) for several hours. They give a guarantee and a certificate, if necessary, provide somewhere.

  6. When the son arrived from the camp with the “guests”, a pedicule spray was recommended in the pharmacy, they removed lice for one application, quickly and efficiently.

  7. They quickly removed Pediculen Ultra with a spray, with one treatment, but the linen did not guess to rub and iron and a new start. Then it’s already smarter - she processed her head and immediately overthrew it, smoothed it and what could be steamed.

  8. It turned out to be the most difficult for us to comb out after processing, therefore I recommend everyone to buy a special comb and a magnifier or sets at once, for economy.

  9. World article) I seemed to read the encyclopedia) We were lucky, we quickly got rid of lice. Bought a spray. And voila from the first application forgot about lice

  10. I removed lice with D-95. Fast, effective and non-toxic. Then she spent scrap disinfection, digested, bedding, clothes. To myself, too, did prevention with the drug just in case. but I didn’t have time to pick up lice yet. Now, after all, I smear the child’s ear with lavender oil as a protection against head lice

  11. We are probably the worst of all. For more than 3 months we can’t get rid of lice. That we just didn’t try kerasin and vinegar and cranial water. We made onion with garlic. Iron for hair, every hair passed. Bed, clothes are changed every day to the child. shampoos, soap, sprays do not help. the daughter already wants to cut her bald hair .... yes it seems like hair is a pity, but how to go to school. We even tried to dye my head ... there is no result. can someone tell me what to do?

  12. Go to a dermatologist, let him help you. I brought lice to the child very quickly, folk remedies do not help, I took D-95, it is not toxic, from three years old, it kills lice, nits and their eggs.
