Folk remedies for spider mites on cucumbers: plants, biological products, acaricides

Folk remedies for spider mites on cucumbers
Folk remedies for spider mites on cucumbers

Good day to you! As you, of course, know, parasites can harm not only humans. Rather, to exert on it not a direct but indirect effect, for example, to spoil a home, food, personal belongings ...

Recently I was at a summer cottage with friends who have been trying unsuccessfully for a long time to put in order vegetable beds. They asked me if there were folk remedies for spider mites on cucumbers.

In my opinion, folk remedies in our country exist from almost everything - and it's not just about parasites. However, since we are talking about a spider mite, then in my article I talk about folk methods of dealing with it!

The content of the article:

Spider mite on cucumbers

The smallest dirty trick is a spider mite on cucumbers, capable of destroying cucumber crops with its gluttony and fertility. It is difficult to get rid of it because of quick addiction to chemicals.

The methods of control collected here will become an effective tool for vegetable growers - each proposed remedy has been tested on successful repeated experience.

Important!
Green cucumbers, which crunch in your mouth so nicely and leave a fresh aftertaste - that’s why they are massively grown. This vegetable is tender and choosy, sometimes it brings a lot of trouble, but the harvest for the flight table and for harvesting for the winter is worth it.

One of the important problems is the formation of a spider mite on cucumbers, the control measures of which we will analyze, since not everyone can successfully deal with an insidious pest.

Who is the spider mite and where does it come from

In order to understand the ways of the appearance of the spider mite on cucumbers and how to deal with the horde of these gluttons, you need to know their habitat.

  • A small harmful insect to be fought with a length of about 0.5 mm is brown or red, and is endowed with 4 pairs of articulated legs in the adult stage and 3 pairs in the larval stage.
  • It develops in 5 stages - an egg, a larva, 2 stages of a nymph and imago.
  • Larvae and nymphs are greenish with dark areas on their sides.
  • Females hide in winter in the ground.
  • He loves dry, hot air, under such conditions, quickly - within 3 days - the larvae already hatch.
  • The tick does not live long - less than a month, but manages to breed well, which complicates the control measures.
  • It settles on the back of the leaves, punctures their pulp and sucks the juice from the plant, depriving it of chlorophyll.
  • It leaves damage on the foliage in the form of a marble pattern - whitish lifeless spots and a thin, but dense, milky web.

Recipes for combating the spider mite on cucumbers, as well as measures to prevent it, are largely based on how the pest appears.

  1. A spider mite crawls on to cucumbers, usually from the ground after wintering, when the soil warms up enough, pouncing on the growing greens.
  2. Weeds that grow in the garden before cucumbers become a hotbed of ticks.
  3. Seedlings of greenhouses and greenhouses are another likely gate for infecting cucumbers with a horde of pests, there is an excellent environment for their abode.

A spider mite, in addition to its own damage, can “award” vegetables with gray rot spores. Its appearance is better to prevent from the beginning than to try to get rid of it later - to fight it, alas, is really laborious and not always successful.

What remedies will help rid cucumbers of spider mites

The choice of funds for spider mites on cucumbers is best based on the degree of damage that he managed to inflict on growing vegetables.

  • Emergency actions - removal of the yellow dead parts of the cucumber bush and their burning, and if the bush has already died, it needs to be dug up urgently and similarly burned - this will help stop the pest invasion.
  • If the identified tick settled recently - there are no twisted dead leaves and few cobwebs, then an available tool is suitable for fighting - peroxide, ammonia, tobacco dust, turpentine.
  • If cucumber greens already have obvious signs of damage - the leaves fade, turn yellow, with a noticeable marble pattern of whitish and blackened spots, and already fall off, then spraying with infusions or decoctions of plants rich in tick-deadly toxins will help fight the spider parasite.
  • Biological products are an excellent tool for combating a gluttonous parasite, allowing you to get rid of the culprits of the death of cucumbers in 3 to 4 stages of treatment.
  • Acaricides, whose drugs are able to completely fight the family of pests, will help with advanced forms of damage to cucumbers.
Attention!
Before spraying the cucumber bushes, you need to remove the tick web - it will retain drops of liquid, and they will not get on the surface of the plant!

Acaricidal drugs are a toxic substance for people, it should be used as a last resort, when other control measures do not work.

Handy tools for getting rid of spider mites on cucumbers

If the defeat of the cucumber foliage is insignificant, and the owners do not know how and how to get rid of the spider mite on cucumbers, they will need the funds that everyone has at hand.

  1. Only 2 tablespoons of 3% hydrogen peroxide, diluted in a liter of water, will be a fatal measure for the voracious tick family. It is advisable to spray with such a solution 3–4 times, at t in the region of 20 ° С the interval will be 5–7 days, at t in the region of 30 ° С - 3 days.
  2. A teaspoon of ammonia, similarly diluted in a liter of water, will successfully combat the cucumber parasite. The resulting liquid is sprayed with cucumbers with the same multiplicity and interval.
  3. Jars with turpentine spilled in them, placed in the affected plants, with their further temporary covering with a film or cloth, will kill the parasite.
  4. Tobacco dust, if it is powdered with cucumber greens, will eradicate the tick in the early stages and will not burn the foliage.

Such simple measures, without involving chemicals, will neutralize the threat of extermination by the tick of cucumber bushes, if applied in time.

Plants - helpers in the fight against spider mites

Infusions with decoctions of herbs, which cause absolute death of the spider mite, can be used in pollination of cucumber bushes. Such plant material has proven itself in the use for controlling small ticks.

  • Datura - decoction: 1 kg of a dry plant without roots / 2 kg of dried / 3 kg of fresh boil for about 3 hours and dilute with 10 liters of water; infusion - pour 100 g of a dry plant with a liter of water and insist a day.
  • Dandelion - infusion: pour 0.5 kg of freshly chopped greens with 10 liters of water and set aside for 3 to 4 hours.
  • Calendula - infusion: 0.4 kg of flowers withstand 5 days in 4 liters of water.
  • Sorrel - soak 0.3 kg of cut rhizome in a bucket of water for 5 hours.
  • Yarrow - 0.5 kg of dry raw materials need to be boiled in boiling water, and then bring the volume to 10 liters.
  • Onions and garlic - 0.2 kg of a mixture of their husks to insist in a bucket of water throughout the day.
Advice!
The use of these poisonous solutions by the drip method helps gardeners to combat the spider web pest by natural means without harming the cleanliness of the crop.

Irrigation should not be done in the active sun - morning or evening, otherwise unstable toxins in the liquid will quickly decay under sunlight.

Biological products against spider mite

An excellent substitute for toxic chemistry is modern biological products that act pointwise only for pests that consume greens treated by them.

The microorganisms on which the mechanism of biological poison is based inhibit the life of the spider mite at all mobile stages, when they suck the juices from the cucumber.

In addition to eggs, females that have gone into the ground may not fall under their action, so the irrigation rate is usually 3, or even 4, stages.

  1. “Vertimek” with the active ingredient abamectin - it is most often praised for its effectiveness.
  2. “Akarin”, “Agravertin” and “Tick-borne”, which are based on avertine, are also worthy preparations that actively destroy spider mites.
  3. “Fitoverm” and “Actofit”, based on aversectin, are likewise deadly for the spider mite family.

Biological products do not instantly kill the tick, but only after 8 - 12 hours. Biological poison is being prepared strictly according to the enclosed instructions, and all the prescribed safety rules at the working stage are also observed.

Acaricides that destroy a spider pest on cucumbers

Acaricidal chemicals are “heavy artillery” for spider mites, affecting not only nymphs, larvae and adult insects, but also egg-mite mites.

The only downside is that they quickly develop immunity to poisons, since 3 generations are replaced during the season. Therefore, you need to change the drug, focusing on the composition, and not another name.

Observations indicate that in one treatment only 50 - 70% of ticks will die out, in two - up to 90%, so they carry out 3 treatments with a break of 4 to 6 days, depending on the weather - the hotter and drier the shorter the break. Such acaricides have shown their "lethal" power.

  • “Floromayt", where the substance is based on biphenazate;
  • “Flumayt”, where the substance is based on flufensin;
  • "Oberon", where the substance is based on spiromesifen;
  • "Sunmight", where the substance is based on pyridaben;
  • "Apollo", where the substance is clofentesin;
  • "Nisoran", where the substance is based on hexithiazox.

When working with chemical poison, you need to be especially careful not to get poisoned - the drugs are relatively toxic for people too!

Prevention against spider mites

A spider mite is that scourge that is easier and faster to prevent than then fight with destruction. Preventive actions against it are simple and reliable, if carried out thoroughly.

Important!
They are based on taking into account comfortable conditions for accelerated reproduction and transformation into new phases of a spider mite (and this is dryness and heat), as well as conditions for a successful wintering.

Consider what can be done to prevent the tick from cucumbers in greenhouses and hotbeds, as well as in open garden soil.

Spider mite prevention in greenhouses and greenhouses

The microclimate in greenhouses and hotbeds contributes to comfort for the spider mite - it is dry and warm. He is able in greenhouse conditions to perfectly settle in, feed, start offspring and winter in greenhouse soil.

How to prevent a spider mite from damaging its habitat?

  1. Make humidity higher than 70%, because already at 60% the tick perishes.
  2. After the harvest is harvested, remove or dig a good topsoil, especially in the corners, where females of the tick like to hide there for the winter.
  3. Enrich the soil with phosphate fertilizers in the form of mixtures.

It is good to do disinfection of the frame and trellis in the off-season - some individuals, when the temperature does not drop below 0 ° C, do not go into the thickness of the soil, but climb up onto plants, frame elements, trellises.

Preventive measures in the garden against spider mites

At the height of summer, especially in hot, dry weather, for 3 days out of 100 eggs laid by the female, a new hungry spider mite appears in the larval stage, which is no less gluttonous. Therefore, tick-borne hordes multiply at times, and it is becoming increasingly difficult to overcome it.

To protect your cucumbers from such misfortune, a number of simple measures should be taken.

  • When a crop of cucumbers is harvested, the entire plant needs to be dug up and burned completely - some individuals can settle on the stems and top.
  • Before planting and after removing the bushes, the soil is carefully dug up.
  • Timely weed removal is the key to the absence of a spider mite on your cucumbers, because in spring weeds are the first food of the tick after hibernation.
  • Planting between calendula bushes will prevent tick-borne invasion.
  • Detected affected leaves need to be torn off and burned.

Landing mixed cucumbers, tomatoes and cabbage will save the cucumbers from the scourge of the spider mite!

The damage to cucumbers from the spider mite is huge - the affected plant becomes defenseless against other diseases - fungus and rot, the crop also suffers. Only in the power of the gardener himself to minimize such damage.

What remedies will help rid cucumbers of spider mites

There are many ways to deal with a pest. Among them there are folk remedies, and scientifically based. Each of the methods can be used at different stages of plant damage.

Folk and natural remedies can help in the early stages, but will be powerless if the pest has populated green plantations too densely.

Attention!
On the other hand, chemicals can only be used when fruits have not yet formed on the plants.

Or you have to wait a long time until the harmful components of the drug lose their power and processed cucumbers become safe for human consumption.

Tools at hand

Of those tools that are always at hand, a soap solution is most often recommended for treating plants. It is easy to prepare, and the use of this method in open ground or a greenhouse is not at all difficult.

Half a bar of soap is crushed and diluted with 10 l of water. The resulting liquid is rubbed on the leaves of cucumbers, washing off pests from them. It is better to close the soil under the plantings during the procedure with oilcloth. Sometimes you can find recommendations to process cucumbers from ticks with hydrogen peroxide. This method has no effect.

Helper Plants

It has been observed that ticks bypass some flowers and plants. Frighten off their onions, garlic, potato and tomato tops, marigolds. The latter are planted in the aisles of cucumbers to prevent the settlement of useful plantings not only with a tick, but also with other pests.

Garlic is not so effective when co-grown next to cucumbers. The infusion of garlic and tomato tops is best used for spraying cucumbers, this will reduce the number of harmful insects. But it is impossible to completely drive away ticks in this way.

Biological products against spider mite

Biological products of industrial production intended for the destruction of pests have a more pronounced effect. These include Verticillin, Actofit, Boverin, Fitoverm, etc.

The substances used in them do not harm humans, animals or beneficial insects. They are toxic only to those insects that feed on plant sap. The effectiveness of biological products is high, but they must be repeated spraying often - 1-2 times a month.

Acaricides

Chemically synthesized acaricides include such agents as Actellic, Apollo, Oberon, Envidor. These drugs are much more effective than biological ones.

One treatment may be enough to completely destroy pests. In advanced cases, they may require several. But it is possible to consume fruits after such treatment with chemistry no earlier than in 2 weeks.

Prevention against spider mites

To prevent the appearance of ticks on plants, it is recommended to adhere to the high agricultural techniques of cultivation of the latter. Predisposing factors for the appearance of ticks are considered to be a decrease in air humidity and a decrease in the overall immunity of plants.

Advice!
Increasing humidity to 50% reduces the number of ticks, and up to 60% and higher makes the environment unsuitable for their habitat. If the air in the greenhouse is dry and its temperature is high, then this most predisposes to the fact that tick reproduction will accelerate.

Some gardeners are convinced that there are cucumbers that are resistant to tick damage. This is not true. No varieties of these plants have complete immunity from pests; we can only speak of greater or lesser resistance to parasites.

In greenhouses and greenhouses

In greenhouses and greenhouses, it is necessary to maintain high humidity, conduct airing on time, and 2 times a year to do chemical treatment of the bearing parts of the structure and other parts (glasses, polycarbonate).

Cleanliness in the greenhouse is the key to the absence of both diseases and pests in it. As additional measures, the landing of marigolds in the aisles is used. They try to avoid thickening of crops and to observe the correct crop rotation.

In the garden

Plants overfed with nitrogen are easily affected by insects. Their leaves become tender and extremely attractive to leaf-eating pests. Confirmation of this is the high reproduction rate of the parasite.

On the contrary, the application of phosphorus top dressing strengthens the surface layers of leaf plates and makes them unsuitable for piercing ticks with the oral apparatus. In addition, they additionally use alternative methods and carry out preventive treatments with biological products.

On cucumbers a spider mite how to fight folk remedies

In this article, you will learn about signs of infection with spider mites. What conditions favor infection? How to treat the disease using folk, proven methods. How to treat the affected bushes in a greenhouse and open ground.

What are the methods of disease prevention. And which varieties are best planted. What rules must be observed in order to get a good harvest. Great practical article!

Last time I told you why the ovaries on the cucumbers turn yellow. Not every summer resident knows what a spider mite on cucumbers is, how to deal with this pest and prevent problems. This is a big problem for many gardeners that they constantly struggle with.

Sometimes the fight against the spider mite is delayed, and the greenhouse does not save from it. This article will tell you how to prevent infection and get rid of adversity.

How to recognize a spider mite on cucumbers

Small insects that live on plants and in the soil adversely affect future crops, spoil the root system, leaves and shoots of bushes.

These creatures feed on sap, hitting the green mass of cucumbers, and with the advent of cold weather, pests move to the lower layers of the earth.

How does it get to plants

As a rule, insects live and actively breed exclusively in favorable conditions for them, involving dry air and high temperature.

They winter in the soil, fallen leaves, manure and other secluded places near the garden, so it is difficult to protect the future crop.

Signs of infection

The following signs indicate an attack of insects on plants:

  1. light spots on the back of the sheet;
  2. whitish web, slow growth of the bush;
  3. yellowness of stems and leaves.
Important!
It is important to know that the pest causes such diseases of cucumbers as gray rot and a violation of photosynthesis, thereby spider mites provoke depletion and death of plantings.

You should take measures to combat it immediately after the harvest - all parts of the affected plants must be collected and destroyed, otherwise the next year you run the risk of completely being left without vegetables.

Pest in the greenhouse and in the garden - the fight

In a greenhouse, it is more difficult to get rid of a spider mite, because here all the conditions are created for insects to multiply and affect the vegetable crop.

However, the pest does not survive at a humidity level of more than 80%, so moistening the plantings will be a good preventative method.

So, you can get rid of adversity by taking the following measures:

  • greenhouse disinfection in autumn and spring;
  • removal of the top layer of the earth;
  • application of special fertilizers.

It is important to know that most of the ticks winter in the ground, and insects hide near the weeds.

Crop rotation

In open ground, special attention should be paid to the problem:

  1. By removing weeds and thoroughly inspecting the bushes to detect affected leaves.
  2. Experienced gardeners also advise in the fresh air to alternate the planting of cucumbers with tomatoes or cabbage.

Since it is difficult for the pest to parasitize on these cultures. It is believed that the higher the air temperature, the shorter the interval between plant treatments.

The introduction of drugs

Among the effective pest drugs, one can distinguish such as Iskra-Bio, Fitoferm, and Karbofos.

It is necessary to apply the specified means in the evening when the sunlight leaves and chemicals do not have time to evaporate.

Tillage

In a greenhouse and open ground, tillage is important, as pests hide and hibernate there.

Do not be lazy in the fall after harvesting and in the spring:

  • dig the ground thoroughly
  • remove fallen leaves
  • weed residues
  • and manure from its surface.
Attention!
This simple pest control measure can significantly reduce the risk of bush infection.

The spider mite can feed on both cucumber seedlings and adult plants, so the land for planting should be cleaned and tested.

Fertilizer application

We must not forget about the introduction of useful fertilizers.

Phosphorus is necessary for cucumbers to build green mass and form ovaries. Such mineral fertilizing must be added to the soil, it will increase productivity and strengthen plant immunity.

Strong and hardy bushes will resist the attack of pests, which means that cucumbers will be able to bloom in time and bear fruit.

Tick control folk remedies

It is no secret that hazardous chemicals threaten human health and it is worth using them only in extreme cases.

Peroxide solution

You can get rid of the spider mite at home by preparing safe and effective agents.

Advice!
Only 2 tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide 3%, dissolved in 1 liter of water, will help cope with the scourge.

With this solution, it is useful to spray plants 3 times every 5 days, and soon you will notice how insects recede and die.

Ammonia solution

A similar effect has: 1 teaspoon of ammonia, diluted in the same amount of water. The resulting fluid inhibits the development and life cycle of the pest. And in order to prevent the further onset of the tick, experienced gardeners place jars of turpentine near the affected bushes.

Using herbs

Interestingly, you can even fight spider mites with plants.

Calendula, dandelion, sorrel, yarrow, onion and garlic are suitable for this purpose.

  1. Take chopped greens or dry raw materials.
  2. Pour boiling water over the product and leave for 1 day.
  3. Then spray the cucumbers with the obtained liquid, it is best to do this by drip irrigation.

And at the end of the work, it is useful to sprinkle bushes with tobacco dust, such a tool will protect them from a second attack of insects and will not spoil the foliage.

Soap solution

Another proven folk method of combating spider mites is a soap solution.

  • So, in 1 bucket of warm water should be diluted about 200 g of crushed laundry soap.
  • The resulting liquid must be insisted, stirred and applied to the processing of cucumbers.
  • Treated planting is left for several hours to get rid of insects, then the foam is washed off.

And they maintain a high level of humidity in the greenhouse, and in the open ground it is recommended to cover the cucumbers with a plastic bag for 1 day.

This method is safe, and gardeners even use it to protect and treat indoor plants.

It is important to know that it is impossible to prevent the soap product from getting to the roots, as this can harm the vegetable culture.

Reinforced mixture

To increase the effectiveness of the tool, you can:

  1. Mix 50 g of laundry soap with 500 g of fresh garlic.
  2. Pour the products with 3 liters of water and infuse the liquid in a dark place for at least 5 days.
  3. Be sure to strain and dilute with clean water.

In addition, simple garlic juice is also suitable for spraying.

How to deal with spider mites on cucumbers in a greenhouse with folk remedies

When planting any crop in the open ground or in the greenhouse, the owner wants to get an excellent crop and tries to take all measures so that neither the disease nor the pest harm the plant. But not everyone succeeds. The spider mite on cucumbers that appeared can destroy the entire crop.

Small, harmful, barely noticeable pest. If it is not destroyed in a timely manner, then not only the crop of cucumbers will die, but also everything that grows on the site, greenhouse, in the greenhouse.

What kind of "beast" is such

You should immediately warn that getting rid of such an annoying neighbor is necessary as soon as possible. This is an insatiable creation, which quickly gets used to the various chemicals that gardeners use to take off.

Spider mite on cucumbers how to deal with this pest? It often starts due to violations of the water or temperature conditions.

Important!
It is necessary to take urgent measures to combat these omnivorous pests, at its smallest manifestations. After all, they appear not only in the greenhouse on cucumbers, they harm all plants on the open ground.

This pest feeds exclusively on plant sap. Losing the vital component, the plant dies. Fighting a spider mite on cucumbers can be useless if it is started too late.

Any funds from the spider mite on cucumbers become simply useless, the plant died, but the tick itself can still be destroyed.

What can destroy a tick on cucumbers in a greenhouse

The spider mite, getting into a favorable environment for itself, selects the most succulent cultures. A striking representative of these are cucumbers.

Juice in cucumbers in sufficient quantities, not only in the fruits, but also in the leaves, stems. If you do not use any tool or drug, the plant will surely die.

The complexity of the situation lies in the fact that the tick is practically not afraid of chemicals. These pests are incredibly resistant to pesticides. Moreover, they are able to adapt to any poisons.

Attention!
The tick multiplies just lightning fast. Each individual is able to lay about five hundred eggs every three days. 90 percent of each masonry survives. It is terrible to imagine what harm this small creature does.

But it’s not worth imagining, it is necessary to get rid of the spider mite on cucumbers as soon as possible. The main thing is not to panic and not give up if an unwanted tenant appears in the greenhouse. Getting rid of him is not difficult.

The spider mite does not really like tomatoes. Therefore, planting cucumbers can be alternated with tomatoes.

In the absence of fruit crops, ticks adapt perfectly to weeds. Therefore, it is necessary to control the cleanliness of the beds and regularly clean them from weeds.

High humidity can become fatal for a tick, which is a normal climate for any kind of cucumber. If this happens in the greenhouse, it is necessary to maintain humidity in the range of 80-85 percent.

Advice!
Inspect the plants every two, three days. The slightest signs of spider web on the leaves may indicate the presence of a tick. Do not forget about regular watering, loosening the soil, spraying.

The universal Bordeaux mixture has proven itself, which helps to solve many problems both in greenhouses and on open ground. But for the destruction of the tick, you can choose a more individual remedy. It:

  • colloidal sulfur;
  • fitoverm;
  • bitoxibacillin.

The drugs are diluted in water, after which the plant is sprayed. If tick colonies are minimal, then treatment can be carried out every ten days.

If it is noticeable that it has spread over a large territory, it is advisable to process plants every five days.

The spider mite in nature has its worst enemy, which will gladly deal with its destruction in the greenhouse. This is phytoseyulyus, which can be forcibly settled next to tick habitats. The diet of this insect consists exclusively of a spider mite.

Without affecting the plant, it will quickly destroy the entire colony along with the eggs. To do this, it is enough to spread a few leaves with such a hunter closer to the infected plant and on the second day only a cobweb can remain from the spider mite, which can be easily removed.

If the proposed remedies do not help, then the stage of the lesion is too large and more radical measures are required until the plant has died.

These may be drugs containing acaricides. But their use will destroy the phytoseyulyus population, and in open areas is a danger to bees. Therefore, the spider mite must be fought as early as possible.

Tips from craftsmen

Humanity has long been engaged in the cultivation of various cultures. Therefore, there are folk remedies that have not been tested for a century.

These are means that do not pose a danger to humans and are able to protect the future greenhouse or garden cucumber crop.

It is clear that most gardeners do not want to use heavy artillery to destroy the tick. This is a danger to humans and pets. Such radical measures are dangerous for bees, without whose help it is impossible to do in the country.

Important!
The most important thing in this suburban war is the timely detection of the pest. Then you can count on folk remedies for the spider mite on cucumbers.

Such difficulties can arise for various reasons. A prolonged absence of a person, or this is a greenhouse with seedlings, where you can not often look.

In this case, it is best to foresee a possible problem in advance. Armed, means protected, resistant to any pest.

What are acaricides

The very name of such drugs makes it clear the essence of their use. The exact translation is:

  1. Acari tick
  2. Cide-cut.

Such drugs are used not only to save plants. They can be used for processing indoor plants, domestic animals.

But they are all toxic, so the use of any drug should comply with the instructions attached to it. Their range is quite extensive. You can imagine the most popular.

  • Actelik. The most common drug tested by almost all gardeners. Contains irimifosmethyl, toxic. After treatment from the sprayer, tick colonies begin to die within five minutes. The person conducting the treatment must use personal protective equipment, a mask, gloves.
  • Actara. Contains thiamethoxam, which is effective in killing any insects.
  • Fitoferm. This is a biological drug containing aversectin. It quickly affects the tick, causing paralysis instantly, and the death of the pest occurs in a few hours. The drug is slightly toxic, not dangerous for people and animals, but safety precautions must be observed when working with it.
  • Fufanon. The main component in the composition is malathion, which, in contact with ticks, paralyzes them and destroys them within a few hours. It has a low degree of toxicity, is not dangerous to humans and animals, but can destroy beneficial insects and bees.

This is only an insignificant part of strong and rapidly acting drugs that are used to destroy entire colonies of Putin's tick.

Even if the package indicates that the drug is safe for humans, it is necessary to work with it carefully. Some components may cause an allergic reaction.

Wear rubber gloves and masks that must be destroyed after use. Protection in the greenhouse as well as on the open ground should be carried out on time, then you will not have to resort to such radical measures that pose a danger to others.

How to create adverse conditions for a spider mite

The spider mite is quite tenacious, and if you do not change the conditions in which cucumbers grow, it will appear again and again on plants, even with multiple treatments, which, by the way, can also be carried out not all season.

Pest treatments are completed two weeks before harvest.

Attention!
It should be borne in mind that cucumbers bear fruit all season, and it turns out that they can only be processed with ready-made products until the first decade of June, all other time you need to use folk remedies, and even better, create conditions that are uncomfortable for the life of the pest.

Basically, the mite settles in greenhouses, its presence in the beds is a rare case. In the garden, as additional moisture, there are natural rains and rainfall, which the mite does not like at all.

In the greenhouses, there is complete calmness, and precipitation, except for watering, does not happen, which is to the liking of the spider mite.

To get rid of pests, spraying is carried out already two weeks after planting cucumber seedlings or sowing in the ground. They process not only plants, but also walls, earth and roof.

Advice!
Spraying is carried out even if the pests are clearly invisible. This will help in the future to prevent massive damage to the leaves.

In addition to spraying, barrels of water are placed in greenhouses, additional containers with water are placed, plants are sprayed on leaves.

To prevent the appearance of a spider mite, I examine the plants that sit in the corners of the greenhouse. They are affected by the pest in the first place.

Means and methods of combating spider mites on cucumbers

In hot, dry weather, you must be extremely attentive to the plantings of cucumbers. In the heat, not only the number of ovaries is reduced, the leaves on the stems wilt, but such a malicious pest as a spider mite also settles.

Due to its microscopic size, it is not immediately noticeable, therefore, inspection of plants should be carried out carefully, looking under the leaves.

Description of the spider mite

A tick is a very small insect, up to 1 mm in size. The color may be greenish, yellowish, or dark brown. From a distance it looks like a small dot.

While there are few ticks, you may not notice them. Settles on the underside of a leaf plate, lives in colonies. It feeds on the juice of plants, piercing holes on the leaves. In the process of life, it secrets a lot of thin cobwebs, which can be seen on the petioles, stems and ovaries.

Due to the large number of injuries, the photosynthesis process is disrupted in the leaves, it begins to turn yellow and dry out. Females in a short period of time manage to lay eggs several times, therefore, under favorable conditions, colonies grow rapidly.

Favorable conditions for ticks are dry air and heat. If the temperature is kept above 25 °, and there is no rain, the pests are activated. Eggs are stored in soil, on dried plants, on leaf litter.

Plants damage adult insects, their larvae and nymphs. In addition, the spider mite is a carrier of viral infections and spores of fungal diseases. If cucumber beds affected by pests are left unattended, the entire crop can be lost.

How to process cucumbers from spider mites

To destroy the spider mite on cucumbers, pesticides of directed action - acaricides, or universal - insectoacaricides are suitable.

  1. "Agravertin" - a tick dies 3-6 days after treatment, but it ceases to harm the plant earlier. After 10 hours, he stops eating juice from the leaves.
  2. "Apollo" - kills eggs, larvae and nymphs of ticks. Adult females become sterilized and no longer produce offspring. It is enough to process the cucumbers 1 time.
  3. "Borneo" - adult insects become infertile, eggs and larvae die on the 3rd day after processing. You can apply only 1 time per season.
  4. "Envidor" - destroys the tick at any stage of its development. Males survive that do not harm plants, but are food for predatory insects. The drug is resistant to rain, well sticks to the plant.
  5. “Tick-borne” - after 7 hours after treatment, the ticks cease to harm the plant, and after 3 days they die completely.
  6. "Sunmight" - destroys mites at any stage of development, begins to act on them 15 minutes after spraying. Duration of action is up to 40 days. You can apply only 1 time per season.
  7. "Fitoverm" - tick nutrition ceases after 15 hours, complete death occurs after a week. If precipitation or dew occurs within a week after treatment, the treatment must be repeated. The best result when spraying at a temperature from + 25 °. The advantage is that cucumbers can be eaten 3 days after processing.
  8. “Flumayt” - acts on ticks at any stage of development. Protection lasts up to 6 weeks. The preparation destroys summer egg masonry by penetrating the leaves, winter masonry - only with contact interaction. Not dangerous for bees and predatory insects.

When processing cucumber plantings with the above preparations, all parts of the plants should be thoroughly moistened. These funds have a contact effect on ticks.

Folk remedies for combating spider mites on cucumbers

With a strong infection, folk remedies are ineffective, therefore, they should be used immediately as soon as this pest is detected. Before processing, infected leaves are picked off, collected in a bucket and burned away from cucumber plantings.

The remaining web must be collected with a soapy sponge. Only after that apply folk remedies. The most effective:

  • Infusion of garlic. 50 grams of garlic are crushed through a press, pour 0.5 l of water and insist day.
  • The resulting solution is filtered, half is poured into a bucket of water. Processing is carried out in the evening calm.
  • Hot pepper is cut into small pieces, poured with water and simmer for about an hour. 50 grams of pepper will need 0.5 liters of water. When it cools, 1/3 of the mixture is diluted in one bucket of water.
  • 3% hydrogen peroxide is diluted in water at the rate of 3 tablespoons per 3 liters of water. Spraying is carried out with an interval of 3-7 days. The higher the air temperature, the more often the treatment is carried out.
  • Tobacco dust - in dry form it is sprayed onto plants moistened with water.

Any liquid soap is added to each of these solutions to ensure adhesion to the plant. If it rains within 5 hours after spraying, the treatment must be repeated.

Important!
Folk remedies should be used regularly, after 7-10 days. There will be no result from a one-time struggle. Since the tick does not like moisture, you can fight it with cold water. This should be done early in the morning, while the plant has not yet warmed up in the sun.

Cold water from the well must be sprayed on the affected foliage and all parts of the cucumbers where the pest is found. It is best if a finely dispersed diffuser is installed on the sprayer. Bring it to the leaves as close as possible so that the water dust does not have time to heat up.

If cold water gets into the ovaries, they may crumble. In the fight against spider mites, this loss is not terrible. It is better to lose a few fruits than to completely lose the crop.

How to deal with a tick on cucumbers in a greenhouse

In a greenhouse, cucumbers are damaged by a spider mite more often than in the open. This is facilitated by the fact that the temperature in the greenhouse rises quite high, but the humidity does not. These are the conditions that the tick likes.

To avoid this, increase air humidity. You can put open containers with water between landings. The larger the evaporation area, the faster the humidity will increase, so it is best to use basins and troughs.

Attention!
It is recommended to conduct foliar top dressing of cucumbers with superphosphate in the greenhouse. This will scare away the pests, and at the same time strengthen the plants.

40 grams of fertilizer (2 tablespoons with a small slide) are bred in a bucket of water and moistened with leaves in the early morning or evening. With severe damage to cucumber plantings, the fight is carried out in the same way as in the open ground.

Prevention

In measures to combat spider mites, prevention takes first place. Important crop rotation in the garden. It is undesirable to grow cucumbers for two years in a row in one place.

It is best to alternate them with tomatoes or spicy herbs. If possible, you can leave the bed for one season under black steam, periodically weeding weeds and loosening the soil.

No dried leaves, roots in the garden should not be left. After the harvest, everything is collected and burned. Before digging, the soil should be treated with acaricides that destroy egg masonry (Apollo, Borneo, Flumayt).

3-4 days after treatment, the soil is dug up, and left so for the winter. When planting cucumbers should not be thickened. If dry, hot weather sets in, the frequency of watering should be increased.

This will benefit cucumbers, but it will be disastrous for ticks. Constantly inspect the beds. As soon as you notice the pest - proceed with processing. During this period, the tick can be dealt with folk remedies.
