How to charge a mousetrap - step-by-step instructions, do-it-yourself rodent traps

how to charge a mousetrap
How to charge a mousetrap

Hello! A couple of days ago, willy-nilly, I had to conduct a lecture for a neighbor on a topic related to the fight against rodents.

And why? She bought a mousetrap in the store, and how to use them and where to put them had no idea.

I had to explain and show everything in detail. But it was worth it. A day later, the neighbor boasted of her first “booty”. Want to learn how to charge a mousetrap? How to do it fast? In the article below I will discuss this issue in detail.

We charge and set the mouse trap correctly

Mousetraps are a traditional way to get rid of mice and work great with a small number of rodents. For fishing to be effective, you need to choose the trap of the right type and the right bait, figure out how to charge the mousetrap and in what place to install it. Then the pests will not have the slightest chance to survive.

Types of traps

The assortment of mousetraps is huge, almost all variations cope with their task. It remains to choose whether to kill the mouse or release it, to see a dead animal, whether to touch it or not. Equally important are the cost of the traps, the ability to buy them in large quantities, as well as safety for children and animals.

Important!
Modern mousetraps are mostly mechanical; a spring is used to actuate them, which can forcefully slam a trap or quickly close a door.

With frame. The mechanism in mousetraps with a metal frame, the base is often made of wood, sometimes - of a sheet of metal. A rectangular frame equipped with a spring is fixed in the cocked position using a metal rod, hooked.

The bait also clings to the same hook. The mouse, tugging at the bait, releases the frame that kills the animal. After each rodent caught, this trap must be set again.

To charge this mousetrap, you need:

  • put the bait on the hook;
  • pull frame back 180 °;
  • holding the frame with one hand, turn the rod with the other and put a hook on its edge;
  • gently release the frame.

Since it is not easy to charge a mousetrap of this type correctly, you will have to train several times. The trap does not work if the hook is not at the very edge of the rod. The bait must be solid enough so that the rodent has to tinker and thereby start the mechanism.

Wooden mousetraps are not very successful in terms of hygiene - blood and urine of rodents are absorbed into the wood, and bacteria grow over time. The metal mousetrap is much better in this regard - it is easy to wash and treat with antiseptics.

With a loop. A rodent trap with a loop is the simplest mousetrap. It is a wooden or plastic block with one or more minks.Inside the hole is a stranglehold made of elastic wire, which is fixed with a thread. In the depths - top dressing. The mouse, trying to get to the food, cuts the thread, releases the wire and dies in a noose.

To establish this mousetrap, you need to pass a thread through the holes with a long needle or wire, bend the wire with a loop and tie a strong knot on top so that the stranglehold is held by the thread in the lower position.

Traps. The device of this mousetrap is similar to traps for large animals, but the mouse trap is smaller and horizontal. The arcs are usually made of plastic, equipped with teeth along the perimeter.

To install the trap, click on the clip from the back, put the bait on the plate inside and release the clip. Similar traps are also available for rats, they are larger than mouse ones and equipped with a stronger spring.

Advice!
There is also a humane mousetrap based on the same principle. It is much longer and top dressing is located in the depths of the structure. The jaw closes when the mouse is completely inside, so it does not get damaged.

Cells. The mousetrap cage is a box of metal rods with a door slamming with a spring. This design is called a live trap, more often it is used to catch larger animals - minks, muskrats, raccoons.

You can catch in such a cage and a rat. The mouse trap is the tiniest of them, but it is also designed: in the middle of the box there is a hook, one of which has a bait on it, and the other holds the spring.

Swing. Another trap that does not harm the rodent is based on the principle of a swing. The design of the mousetrap is extremely simple, based on a long rectangular box curved in the center like a boomerang.

You need to set the trap so that the part closer to the entrance is in the horizontal position. The door in this case is fixed in open form. Having reached the edge of the mousetrap, the mouse outweighs the swing, the door is released and slams.

Pipes. The principle of operation of traps made in the form of pipes - I do not see, I do not touch. They are designed for people who are afraid of mice or are disgusted with them.

The mouse, having run into a plastic opaque pipe, is killed by a blow to the head or simply fixed inside by a slamming lid. You can shake it out of the trap without touching it and not seeing the animal.

Electrical traps

The most convenient rodent trap in operation is the electric mousetrap. It does not need to be charged, human involvement is minimal, just put the bait and plug the cord into a power outlet.

Attention!
The mouse, getting inside, paws closes the contacts and instantly dies from the discharge of current. Unlike mechanical models, which may not work on time, the electronic mousetrap has 100% efficiency.

There are light bulbs on the device that indicate whether the trap is free or if a rodent has already fallen into it. In some models, signal diodes are located at the end of a long cord so that you can slide the mousetrap deep under the sofa and control the catch of mice without reaching for the device.

Destruction systems

Reusable electronic traps are called rodent extermination systems. Without a doubt, this is the best mousetrap - the small plastic box is equipped with an electric camera and a rolling bottom.

The instructions describe in detail the principle of operation - after destruction, the mouse automatically appears in the container, and the trap is ready for work again. In the morning, it remains only to remove the container and shake pests out of it.

The use of destruction systems has only one drawback - their cost. For the price paid for one device, you can buy hundreds of fairly effective simple mousetraps.

Bait selection

Correct bait is the basis of a successful fight against rodents. Even the best traps will be powerless if the mouse is not interested in the food offered.The prevailing opinion that mice are madly in love with cheese is not true.

This product is far below the rodent's list of preferences; the first lines are taken by completely different lures.

The list of what to put in the mousetrap in order to guarantee the lure of the mouse:

  • unrefined sunflower seeds on a piece of bread;
  • deliciously smelling bread and fragrant pastries;
  • sunflower seeds and peanuts;
  • pieces of bacon, slightly charred over a fire;
  • pumpkin seeds;
  • smoked sausage.

For traps without a trigger, industrial attractants for mousetraps can be used, they are made on the basis of food products with the addition of odorous substances that attract rodents.

Important!
The rodent does not pay attention to the bait in a mousetrap, if it does not match his tastes. In this case, the product must be replaced. Also, mice do not respond to something tasty in a charged trap when they have access to human food - loosely covered food containers or a bunch of crumbs on the table and under your feet.

You need to touch the mousetraps only with gloves, so they will not leave the smell of a person who can alert the mouse.

Installation locations

In the rooms in which children and pets live, it is better not to catch mice with open type devices, as there is always a chance that the rodent will not be caught at all.

Loop traps are also not a good option - a thin wire easily cuts the skin. In these cases, it is better to put a mousetrap-cage or models of a similar action from plastic pipes and boxes.

You can catch rodents anywhere in the apartment, even in remote corners they will still come across periodically, but for greater efficiency, the installation of the selected mousetrap is carried out along the paths of pests from nests to products.

Mice prefer to hide under cabinets, in drawers, between furniture, in floor and wall cavities.

Modern repair with an abundance of drywall is a dream for any rodent. The nest can also be located outside the house - in an adjacent barn or garage, in the attic, in the basement, in a bush or a pile of branches near the wall, in the crevices of the foundation.

Then minks lead into the room - small openings near the floor. It is possible to determine where the mice are and by the excrement left and spoiled products.

Traps are placed near these places along the baseboards and between the furniture. It’s better if there are several mousetraps, since mice are caught mainly at night, and you won’t be able to immediately recharge the device.

How to put a mousetrap?

Mankind has long been fighting rodents, devising increasingly original and effective methods of extermination of rats and mice. Along with the usual mousetraps sold in hardware stores and costing several tens of rubles, various substitutes are presented on the deratization market - electronic exterminators, ultrasonic repellers.

Advice!
Electronic models are more convenient to operate, require less human involvement, but from a financial point of view they hit the budget more.

The choice remains with the owners of the premises, which way of controlling rodents they like. Those who prefer a reliable standard mousetrap will not be amiss to learn the principle of its operation and the correct installation method.

Without a bait, a mousetrap will be a completely useless item, so the first thing that is placed in it is something edible and attractive to rodents (cheese, bread).

Sequencing:

  1. the bait is placed on the trigger;
  2. Further, the clip is very carefully cocked;
  3. the retainer should be put on the clip;
  4. the retainer itself is inserted into the trigger.

The holder is set so that the slightest touch leads to its sliding out of the trigger.

A mousetrap is placed in places of observed activity of rodents and their possible appearance.

The principle of operation of the device

Everything happens quite quickly and simply. Sensing the bait, the mouse smells.Trying to remove a tidbit, the pest activates the trigger: the retainer slides off, releasing the clip, which slams.

The clip manages to capture the mouse, it rarely escapes from the mechanism. It remains for a person to perform an unpleasant procedure for cleaning the mousetrap and recharge the device.

In this case, safety precautions should be observed - the clamp may pinch your fingers. Mechanical control of rodents can take a long time.

How to make a do-it-yourself mousetrap

Many people are interested in how to make a mousetrap with their own hands. After all, for example, for a private house, these little carriers of infection can be a real disaster. And in city apartments you can sometimes see mice.

Attention!
These rodents spoil food, gnaw a heater, leave their black “spools” everywhere. Meanwhile, to make a simple design designed for catching mice on their own is quite simple.

You will need

  • 1.5 liter plastic bottle;
  • two caps from plastic bottles;
  • long fat screw;
  • glue;
  • board 150 mm.

Instruction manual

So how to make a mousetrap out of these simple materials? To make such a design, cut three pieces from the cooked board. One of them will serve as the basis of the mousetrap. The other two bars should be approximately 4 cm wide.

Poke the bottle through with a self-tapping screw. Try to make sure that it is located exactly in the middle of the container.

Glue one of the small bars vertically in the center of one of the edges of the wooden base. Screw a self-tapping screw into it. You will get a mousetrap blank from a bottle and a board. The bottle should be located just above the base and swing freely on the self-tapping screw.

Mousetrap from the bottle
Mousetrap from the bottle

Now proceed to the most crucial step in the manufacture of the mousetrap. Directly in front of the neck of the bottle, also upright the second block. It should be positioned in such a way that the neck of the bottle, being raised, slightly touches it with its lower edge.

Cut the bar to such a height that the bottle resting on its neck is slightly raised. With light pressure, the neck should immediately go down without clinging to the bar. Glue the bar to the base in the position selected in this way.

Important!
Check to see if the neck drops spontaneously. A board and a bottle are good answers to the question of how to make a mousetrap with your own hands. But in the manufacture of such a design, it is important to maintain accuracy.

If you poked the bottle with a self-tapping screw not quite in the center, and the neck still lowers, use a counterweight. To do this, simply glue the bottle cap to its bottom.

Glue another cap from another bottle over the sharp end of the self-tapping screw to the side bar. In this case, when using the design in an apartment or a private house, you will not get hurt yourself. That's all the mousetrap is ready. Test it for performance by slightly pressing down on the neck with your finger. The bottle should swing down easily.

Put some attractive rodent bait in the bottle. This can be, for example, a piece of bread, cheese, sausage, etc. Put the resulting design where the rustling and squeak of rodents are most often heard.

You have a fairly effective device. Such a simple mousetrap is a good answer to the question of how to catch a mouse in an apartment or a private house.

The next day, check the structure in the morning. This mousetrap works simply. Home mice are usually small in size and also flexible and can crawl through even the smallest holes.

Tempted by the bait, the rodent will easily penetrate the neck of the bottle. As a result, under its weight, the structure will swing down and the front block will close the neck, blocking the mouse exit.

Mousetrap Instructions

Design and principle of operation:

  1. Mousetrap case (hereinafter the description is made for one parking mousetrap).
  2. Spring (mount, view, and size of the springs are subject to change).
  3. The gatehouse (thread).
  4. Noose – noose (wire).

Delivery set: mousetrap assembly, thread for the gatehouse, thread threader, instruction with photo.

The principle of action of the mousetrap: The mouse, feeling the bait, climbs into the hole, but since there is a thread there, it cannot go further. She (the mouse) gnaws the thread, and, under the action of a spring, is held with a noose to the upper part of the hole of the mousetrap.

Charging method (installing the gatehouse)

To begin with, we will manufacture a needle threader (for those who have acquired a mousetrap, skip this point) - a device to facilitate refueling the mousetrap.

Take a steel wire (the second or third string from a six-string guitar, the string also comes from a balalaika) 20-25 cm long, bend in half and get the following shape:

Mousetrap
Mousetrap

We have a mousetrap openings to ourselves. We take the attached wire - the needle threader, thread it from top to bottom, from the right hole. After the wire has passed the mouse trap body, we thread a thread into it like a needle and pull the wire up.

Advice!
We pass the wire from the bottom up from the left hole. Throw the thread through the spring, thread it into the wire and pull it down. We overturn the mousetrap in such a way that the lower part of the mousetrap is accessible to us.

Press the spring to the mouse trap body and tie the thread. If the mousetrap is multi-parked, it is recommended to start charging on the right side, repeating the above steps.

After installing the gatehouse, pour bait inside the mousetrap. Bait:

  • fried sunflower seeds (2-3 seeds are enough);
  • white bread crackers with two to three drops of unrefined oil;
  • toasted lard;
  • they even put meat (but this is already a luxury);
  • invent something of your own.

Location

The best place for a mousetrap outdoors, maybe under a hive. Given that the case of the device is made of wood, it is desirable that moisture (precipitation) does not fall on the mousetrap. Some beekeepers have a mousetrap right in the hive. This is considered a last resort.

When installing, make sure that the distance from the mouse trap body and the lower part of the hive, the roof (if installed in the hive) is at least 7 cm, so that the triggered spring is not blocked, and accordingly the rodent does not run away.

Indoors, the product is placed in places of the most likely occurrence of rodents.

Precautionary measures

Do not put in rain, do not throw in water. It is strictly forbidden:

  • provide access to mousetraps for children under 4 years of age, as there are thin metal parts that children can harm themselves.
  • after catching the mouse (mouse) it is recommended: to take a sheet of paper (in no case do not touch the body of the mouse with your bare hands) and wrap it in the tail. Press lightly on the spring, thereby freeing the noose-noose, pull the tail of the mouse and do whatever you want with it.

It is best to burn the corpse of a mouse. It is noticed that from the moment the mouse thread is cut - the gatehouse until its complete death passes from 1.5 to 4 minutes.

Disposal

In the case when the need for a mousetrap disappears, it is disposed of as household waste (you can burn it), although there are cases when its service life reaches forty years.

How to charge a mousetrap of various kinds

Those who met with rodents in their own home do not always know what to do about it. It is necessary not only to know how to charge the mousetrap, but also to understand what they are, how they work and what result should be expected.

Before you start buying, you should know what types of mousetraps can be found on store shelves.

Spring

This type of trap is most common. These are the simplest devices. Most often made of a piece of plastic / wood, equipped with a bracket and a spring.

Attention!
There must be a place where you need to put the bait for the rodent. The mouse, which attracts the smell, goes to the trap. Touching the food, it starts the mechanism. A spring throws out a bracket killing a rodent.

Such traps can be used repeatedly, removing the dead animal. Understanding how to charge a mousetrap is easy. You just need to pull the spring and put a piece of food on the hook.

Traps

Such traps are very light, since they consist of two “jaws” of plastic. They work due to the spring, which, straightening, slams the jaw.

Trap reacts to movement. Her work scheme is simple, how to properly charge the mousetrap of this design, even a child will understand.

The bait is placed between parts that are slammed off by a rodent. As a result, the mouse dies.

Electronic models

Such mousetraps are the last word in technology. To destroy mice, a charge of electricity is used. A trap is a box connected to electricity. To learn how to charge a mousetrap, the instruction of which is attached to the product, is not difficult. The device operates as follows: the animal enters the box, falling into the likeness of an electric chair.

Traps that don't kill

Several models of mousetraps have been created in which the animal does not die. This is an excellent choice for those who do not want to "get their hands dirty" in mouse blood. Prisoners can be released far from home to freedom.

Using these traps, you need to not only understand how to charge a mousetrap. It is necessary to regularly check the installed traps, since the captive mouse can die for two reasons:

  • dehydration;
  • stress.

Among other things, it is very important to make sure that the mice cannot get to the house from the place where you released them.

Glue

Glue in traps is used natural or synthetic. Before charging a mousetrap, you need to put it in a tray of plastic, wood or plain cardboard. The bait is placed in the center, making sure that the glue ring does not break.

Important!
Having reached food, the rodent adheres firmly to the stand, losing its ability to move.

Such animals die from dehydration, hunger, or even suffocation. Since the mouse dies slowly, activists are trying to add this type of trap to the list of products that prolong the torment.

Homemade

It is not necessary to purchase a trap in a store - you can assemble this device at home. Such devices work no worse than purchased. With their help, knowing how to charge a mousetrap, you can get rid of pests in the country and at home. For such a device you need things that can be found in any household.

To make a trap at home, you need to take a bucket filled with water for three quarters. So that the mouse dies quickly, soap should also be added here. Then put the bucket in the place of gathering of animals.

In order for rodents to rise to the bucket, a ramp (board, panel) should be installed. Floating food is dipped in water. Attracted by the scent of the mouse will fall into a bucket and drown.

You can get rid of rodent pests with the help of a large number of various models of traps. Using any of them, you can protect the housing from a rodent. It is very important to start the destruction of mice in time, as they are carriers of dangerous diseases.

For example, it may be a hantavirus that spreads through urine and droppings. Rodents, in addition, are carriers of bugs and ticks that can infect a person with Lyme disease.

For the initial stage, it is better to use homemade traps, since it will not be difficult to charge a home-made mousetrap, as well as to make it. Such a device is no less effective than expensive store devices. But such a simple design can save money that could be spent on the purchase of proprietary funds.

How to make a simple mousetrap

The problem of any structure during the period of cold weather (especially) is the resettlement of rodents in the "winter apartments". You can deal with this phenomenon in different ways, but the most effective, good old way using a simple mousetrap. The mink trap is most effective here.

Advice!
Since it is not difficult to make it, the more drawings are given, it seems that this design will help you. Everyone can find a suitable bar and drill holes in it, but the most important thing is to establish the correct distance from the location of the thread, which keeps the “beam” of the fishing loop from the end of the hole into the hole. Although first things first ...

Such a mousetrap works without misfires. Gnawing the thread, the mouse does not have time to bounce and is caught. Also in a mousetrap you can do not three "jobs", but as many as you like. But I think the best option is a three-hole mousetrap.

You can make several mousetraps and place them in different places. Usually mice from the street to the house begin to climb at the beginning of winter, but as they say - prepare a sled in the summer.

Do-it-yourself mousetrap
Do-it-yourself mousetrap

To make such a mousetrap you will need a wooden block 40x120x90 mm in size with a flat and smooth surface. It is necessary to mark the position of the centers of the hunting holes. Drill blind holes to a length of 80 mm with the first drill with a diameter of 22 mm.

Having retreated from the end by 25 mm, perpendicular to the hunting holes, drill two holes into the passage with a drill with a diameter of 1.5-2 mm. They must pass by dividing the diameter of the trapping hole into three equal parts. These are holes for passing the holding thread.

Make a longitudinal cut 6 mm from the end and 4 mm wide to a depth of 32 mm. At the ends and between the holes on the PVA glue "plant" squares. Polymer adhesives can not be used - their smell will scare away rodents.

Mousetrap side view

From a steel spring wire with a diameter of 2 mm, wind a spring with a diameter of 30 mm in 2.5 turns, leaving one end of a straight section 50 mm long (pin), the other - 80 mm long (rocker). At the end of the rocker arm, bend a ring (bottom to top) with a diameter of 6-8 mm. This is a ring for attaching a hunting loop through an extension cord.

Position the spring in the center of the hole so that the ring is above the groove and mark the location of the pin. Drill a hole with a diameter of 1.8 mm and drive a pin until the spring contacts the block.

Mousetrap top view

From a wire with a diameter of 1 mm, make a catch ring with a diameter of 24 mm and attach it to the ring of the rocker arm with an extension with a ring, thereby creating a movable joint.

The beam must be horizontal when joining. After that, open the spring so that the trapping ring, under the action of the spring, extends beyond the cut.

How to charge

It remains to give advice on charging the mousetrap and laying the bait. As a bait, it is best to use seeds slightly fried in vegetable oil or small pieces of old bacon.

Attention!
You need to lay it with a wooden spatula, since rodents easily catch the smell of a person.

For the convenience of charging a mousetrap, make a plug with a diameter of 20 mm. Insert it through the trap ring and trap hole. Pass a large needle with a thick thread through the block, covering the rocker and the block through two small holes.

Tie the thread on top of the rocker arm with a knot so that it is tightly tensioned. Pull out the cork. The mousetrap is ready for action.

  • 1 - block (case);
  • 2 - trap hole;
  • 3 - spring;
  • 4 - rocker;
  • 5 - rocker ring
  • 6 - pin;
  • 7 - dexterous ring;
  • 8 - extension cord;
  • 9 - extension ring;
  • 10 - bait;
  • 11 - longitudinal groove;
  • 12 - insert;
  • 13 - holding thread;
  • 14 - node;
  • 15 - hole for skipping the thread.

We make home-made mousetraps from improvised means

Mousetraps are a proven weapon against mice. In any habitat, apartment or house, a person will find unwanted neighbors: cockroaches or mice. Particularly willing gray robbers settle in private homes.In the fall, a massive invasion of rodents begins, because they hide from the onset of cold weather.

Such a neighborhood does not suit people at all, therefore, various devices are invented in order to catch or drive out unexpected tenants.

Types of devices

They are divided into two types:

  1. mechanical;
  2. electronic.

Wooden. The simplest and most time-tested is a wood mousetrap. An uncomplicated, but effective mechanism consists of a base, a spring, a hook for the bait and a bracket, which, when triggered, slams the mouse.

It is well known how a mousetrap works: a rodent pulls on a bait, a spring is triggered, and a bracket presses it. How to charge such a mousetrap? Attach the bait to the hook, pull the bracket back and fasten it.

Electric. The electric mousetrap is not very different from the mechanical. The principle remains - the mouse is lured by the smell of the bait and eliminated by a shock. When the trap is triggered, the indicator light comes on. The casing is designed taking into account the fact that you do not need to take the rodent with your hands, just open the lid and throw away the pest.

Using electric is easy. The device runs on mains or batteries, is safe for people and pets larger than a hamster, takes up little space. The trap is not able to catch a vole, because it is very shallow. The disadvantages include a relatively high cost.

Electronic. The electronic mousetrap is a slightly improved electric model. You can do it yourself, but working with an electrician requires special training and the safety of such a device will also be in question. It’s easier to buy an industrial model and remove pests.

Important!
Ultrasound. An ultrasonic mousetrap, or rather a rodent repeller, works on the principle of generating a signal that evokes panic and a desire to leave an inhospitable place. It takes time to achieve the effect. At first, rodents can even sniff the device. The generated signal does not affect a person and is harmless to the nervous system.

The device does not pose a threat to pets, is environmentally friendly, reliable. It should not be used with other types of traps. Where the mouse needs to be caught, the bait is used, and the ultrasound machine repels the mouse.

Varieties of makeshift traps

There are several ways to avoid spending money on acquiring industrial models. Rodents are quite cunning, but knowing their habits and preferences, you can make a humane mousetrap from improvised means. A mousetrap is made at home very simply. To make a home-made mousetrap, any small capacity is useful.

Out of the bottle. For example, can be made from a plastic bottle. The easiest way to mousetrap from a plastic bottle with your own hands:

  • cut off the neck of the bottle;
  • make shallow parallel cuts along the edge from the top to the bottom of the container;
  • bend the strips inward;
  • grease the walls with sunflower oil to enhance gliding;
  • put the bait;
  • place the trap in a secluded place.

The rodent will climb into the trap, but will not be able to get out. It remains only to carry him away from home. What bait to put in a mousetrap? Any product with a bright aroma will do. Even beer poured on the bottom will work in a few hours.

Out of the bucket. The bucket mousetrap is also notable for its simplicity of design and reliability. Its feature is reusable when several pests are caught in one trap.

Such a trap is installed as follows: water is poured onto the bottom of the bucket so that the rodents do not jump out, in the middle a lid with a bait is attached to the wire, and a plastic strip, “springboard”, is mounted to the edge of the bucket. The mouse tries to get to the feed, the plastic bends and shakes it into the water.

From the can. Using ingenuity, you can even make a mousetrap out of a can. Instructions on how to set such a trap:

  • The bait is placed in the chopped half of the walnut.
  • A liter jar is placed on the base of plastic or cardboard.
  • Under one edge of the can, half of the nut with the filling inside the can is installed on the edge.
  • The rodent will go inside and try to pull the stuffing out of the nut. He moves and the trap closes. The bait is made from bread crumb with fried seeds.

A variety of types of home-made traps allows you to choose the most simple and acceptable way how to lime uninvited guests. It is not necessary to kill a rodent, it is enough to catch it and take it outside the house.

Types of Lures

There are a lot of options for putting in a mousetrap. Slices of sausage, cheese, smoked bacon, bread with sunflower oil are suitable. A good lure would be nuts and roasted seeds. It is worth observing which product is spoiled the most and use it for bait. A strong and tasty smell immediately attracts the attention of a rodent. And everyone chooses the method of capture to their taste.

Trap locations

Traps are set in nooks, near walls. If there are gnawed moves, then this is a direct indication of the installation location. Where cereals, flour and other products are stored, you also need to put a mousetrap or an ultrasonic repeller.

Advice!
It is imperative that you install 1-2 traps in the kitchen, as a rodent needs access to water to live.

There is one way to catch a mouse without a mousetrap. There is a special glue for rodents that can be applied to any surface. Note that the mouse must then be thrown away, which means that maple is applied to cardboard, a piece of plastic and any other surface that is not a pity.

The most effective and environmental way to remove rodents is a cat. And the house is clean and the cat is full.

Preventative measures

To prevent rodents, follow these guidelines:

  • carefully repair the cracks during repairs;
  • place grilles on the ventilation holes;
  • do not leave food particles in the public domain;
  • close access to water.

How to charge a mousetrap - step by step instructions

A mousetrap is one of the most inhumane ways to catch a rodent. You can buy it at a specialty store. Next, following the instructions, you need to configure the mousetrap and install it in the place where the appearance of the mouse is most likely.

As a bait, you can use a strongly smelling product: smoked sausage, animal feed or peanut butter. When the mouse gets caught, it is necessary to get it out of the mousetrap and throw it away, but it’s better to bury it in the forest so that, according to popular beliefs, it doesn’t appear in a dream.

You can kill a rodent in another way: add poison to the mice to the piece of food. However, before that, she can return to her hole and then it will be difficult to find her.

As a result, an unpleasant smell of a decaying corpse will appear in the apartment. Using it to determine the location of the mouse’s body will be easy, but it will take some time to suffer the stink.

If there is a cat in the house and it is not devoid of the instinct of a hunter, then problems with mice should not arise. However, not all modern cats, accustomed to eating, which the owner gives, will want to hunt. In this case, you can invite a yard or village cat.

Attention!
If you don’t feel like killing a rodent, there are ways to catch a live mouse. You need to take a glass, a coin, with a diameter of 2-5 cm, and a bait. The glass must be put on a coin with an edge, after having previously placed the bait under it.

When the rodent comes for food, it will touch a coin and cover it with a glass, it will be trapped. So that the mouse does not run away, when raising the glass, you need to put a cardboard, then quickly turn the glass over. You can bring a "pet" to the forest, preferably away from home, so that he does not return.

There are two more humane ways to catch a mouse with a bottle. For the first you will need a glass bottle with sunflower oil and a ruler. The smell of unrefined sunflower oil is very attractive to rodents.

To catch it, you need to put the bottle in its habitat, then put the ruler with one end on the neck, without completely blocking it, with the other on the floor.The mouse on the line will climb into the bottle and will not be able to get out of it.

You need to use a glass bottle with a volume of a liter or more, oil is necessary so that, having smeared in it, the rodent does not manage to get out.

You can also use a plastic bottle to catch the mouse. It is cut approximately in half, the lower part is taken and the cloves are cut out. Then they are bent inward so that the mouse could easily fall into the trap, but could not get out. Lure some yummy will help: cheese, sausage or dry food.

One of the easiest ways to catch a mouse at home is to use a bucket and paper towel pipe trap. You need to take a cardboard tube, on the one hand roll it out to give stability.

Lay on the table so that a large half of the pipe hangs over the bucket. On the end that is above the bucket, lay the bait. When the mouse gets into the pipe in search of prey and approaches the bait, it will fall into a bucket.

Important!
So that the rodent does not come out of the bucket, you need to grease it with oil, in addition, it is recommended to use a high bucket. This method is good in that it is easy to execute. While the person is in a dream, the mouse is caught already.

It is not difficult to get rid of mice in the house, but it is better that they do not even appear. To protect the apartment from rodents will help following these recommendations:

  • it is necessary to close all the holes in the apartment, cover the cracks with silicone glue, since PVA mice can eat;
  • the mouse will not survive without water for two weeks, so do not leave water containers open for the night;
  • food should be stored closed, well-packed, if the rodent is blocked from access to food, he will leave the house.

If the risk of mice in the apartment is high, you should buy a special ultrasonic repeller. It acts on the nervous system of rodents and drives them away from the home.

Reusable do-it-yourself mousetrap

So, being the owner of a private house (in which I live only in the summer) and a house in a summer cottage (in which I rarely visit), I ran into one problem: MICE! In the summer it is not so scary, but, with the onset of cold weather, the problem becomes relevant - mice tend to heat and climb into homes.

Of course, a great many mousetraps are sold in stores. And I bought and installed them. But after all, they have one common drawback - they catch one mouse!

And if I do not appear in the house every month? How many mousetraps can I install? ... You can, of course, a lot! But then, be sure to accidentally climb into them yourself! After all, they are placed in "secluded places", or, it will make a cat, or a dog!

Therefore, I made a home-made mousetrap (and not one), which has the following properties: it can catch several mice, and it is absolutely safe for everyone who is not a rodent, and does not fit into a two-centimeter hole.

Today I made another such mousetrap and shot the process in the photo. I did it on six mice, so we will consider just such an option.

So we need:

  • Bar. (Any unnecessary one will do. Cross section from 40 to 100 mm, to infinity ... Well, within reasonable limits. I do not advise you to do it from sleepers. Length - about 6 centimeters for each “mouse place” - in my case, about forty centimeters)
  • Old bicycle knitting needles. (Again, one for each mouse - in my case - 6)
  • Thin knitting wire (I took 0.8)
  • Strong thread.

To begin with, at the end of our bar we drill “blind” holes with a diameter of 20 mm and a depth of 8-10 cm. (The bar should be two centimeters wider). (These will be minks for mice). I did this with the help of adjustable wood drill bits and a conventional drill.

Advice!
After that, we need to perform a cut along the entire bar, retreating about a centimeter from the edge where we drilled blind holes. The cut depth should reach the bottom edge of our holes. I performed it with the help of a circle on a tree and the 125th small “grinder” (angle grinder).

It can be done with a circular saw (circular), or, even with a hacksaw. But in this case, you will not be able to make a mousetrap more than 3 minks - the length of the hacksaw blade will not be enough.

The next step - at a distance of about two to two and a half centimeters from our cut, we drill two holes, 2 mm in diameter, across the beam. They must pass across each mink, dividing it into equal parts. For clarity, I inserted a wire into the drilled holes:

With the same drill, we drill a hole in the bar where the mink has already ended. Next, we begin to manufacture the spring. It is made from the needles of a bicycle. As a template, I used a file handle with a diameter of 20 mm.

  1. Getting to the assembly. We put the springs into the hole drilled by us opposite each mink.
  2. After that, at the end of each spring we fix a loop of knitting wire.
  3. And we charge the mousetrap: Squeezing the spring so that the wire loop descends into our cut, we fix it by inserting something of a suitable diameter. I used the same file.

After that, we simply tie the spring with a thread passed through our two holes. I use a “gypsy” needle to make it easier to thread:
After that, remove the file and place the bait on the end of the mink. Better, smelling great. I used slices of fried skin-to-skin skins from bacon. (This can be done at the beginning. Even more convenient - the threads do not interfere)

Similarly, we charge all the minks. What we have: a wire loop, which is larger in diameter than the mink, completely hides in the cut and does not overlap the mink. A mouse, seeing a hole, naturally, will try to examine it.

Moreover, it smells appetizing from it! After passing the loop, it will rest against the threads blocking its passage ... and simply gnaw them !! (Do not hesitate, verified.) Further - it is clear. The released spring here will also tear the wire loop up ...

Everything!!! Not one has yet reached the bait. At the same time, the tail of a mouse sticking out of a mink does not deter others! The rest of the minks are free! Upon arrival at the cottage, I sometimes shake, pressing the springs, 10 mice each! All that is needed is a new thread. The bait serves a long time.

  1. our mistake was that we put such traps for mice in the bedroom, it’s good if she immediately pinches her head, and not like in our case, every night we woke up from a knock on the floor, the mouse pinched its paws, then its tail, and with this trap jumped on the floor of the room, her husband got up and finished her off. best of all, in my opinion, it's pestilence, otherwise you’ll waste cheese on them and then scrape the brains from the trap, it’s mine, although all of the responsibility lay with my husband
