How to get rid of spiders in the house

Hello! I do not suffer from arachnophobia, i.e. I do not run away with screeches when I see a spider.

But a couple of months ago, I began to notice that there were too many of them in my house. I was already tired every day of collecting cobwebs in the corners.

I didn’t want to destroy the spiders, but to reduce the attractiveness of my house for them - completely. By the way, I recalled the advice of my grandmother about spiders. Want to know how to get rid of spiders in your home? How to do it fast? Now I will describe everything in detail.

How to get rid of spiders in a private house, in an apartment, in a greenhouse and in the garden?

Question: “How to get rid of spiders?” - surely bothered every hostess who met such a guest in her home. Spiders get into the room in different ways: through ventilation shafts, hoods, through open windows and doors, and also through cracks in the walls or in the floor.

Important!
The best conditions for breeding spiders is darkness and dampness. Spiders feel best in homes where housekeeping is very rare. To protect your home from the appearance of these insects, you often need to do wet cleaning and ventilate the room.

If you have spiders, then simply getting rid of them will not be enough. These insects will not live where there is little food, that is, other insects. It follows from this that you need to get rid not only of spiders, but also of other insects that serve as their food.

If we talk about what damage spiders can do at home, then the answer will be simple: no.

Unless, of course, tarantulas have settled on your ceiling. Basically, spiders are dangerous only for those who suffer from arachnophobia. And not because they can eat people. Well, and besides, the web in the corners of the room does not really decorate the interior.

If you still decide to get rid of spiders on your own, then our article will help you with this, describing in detail the methods of dealing with these insects. There are three methods in total: calling a specialist, using chemical preparations, as well as folk remedies.

Consider in which case it is most convenient to apply this or that method, but before that you need to prepare the room.

The first step is to examine the apartment or house, and repair all unnecessary cracks and holes. Particular attention should be paid to the cracks in the floor and behind the skirting boards, since spiders get into the house most often from there.

Then you need to get rid of the web that spiders have woven. But this must be done with extreme caution. Use a mop and a damp cloth wound around it to get rid of the cobwebs as efficiently as possible.

Advice!
Also, be careful, because spiders can be on the web, and when you start to take it off, they will fall on your head and immediately gnaw out the brain ... Well, the brain will not gnaw, but the sensations from small paws on the body will be far from the most pleasant. Better wear a helmet and diving suit.

Clear out the room. Get rid of insects that serve as food for spiders. This will be a very effective method to starve spiders in the event that it is not possible to get rid of them by folk methods.

After that you can start processing the room.

In the apartment

Every person has spiders in the apartment. To get rid of them, it is necessary to carry out a set of measures to exterminate insects. This will help us with such tools as chestnuts, nuts and oranges.

It is known that spiders do not like pungent odors, so it’s best if you break or grate these products, then put them in places where spiders spend all their free time.

Another remedy that will help get rid of spiders at home is peppermint oil. It can be purchased at the pharmacy, after which it is slightly diluted with water, and the whole apartment is treated with the resulting solution. Often, spiders together leave your home, and besides this, the apartment will always have a pleasant aroma.

In a private house

Spiders in a private house are also not uncommon. Getting rid of them can be a little harder than spiders in an apartment, because spiders can get into the house from the street, from which they certainly can not be evicted.

Vinegar will help get rid of spiders in the house. To do this, moisten cotton swabs in vinegar and place them in those places where spiders were found most often. After a few hours, spiders tend to leave the room.

Attention!
But do not overdo it with vinegar: it has a rather pungent smell, because of which you yourself will most likely want to leave the room.

Another way to get rid of spiders at home is diatomite. This tool must be poured in places of frequent accumulation of spiders. When insects come in contact with this remedy, they will soon overtake a sudden death.

In the garden or in the greenhouse

If spiders appeared in the garden or in the greenhouse, then there is no point in getting rid of them: firstly, they eat harmful insects and their larvae, which protects your plants, and secondly, they still come back sooner or later, since to destroy all the spiders at once you will not succeed.

But if they are too much calluses to your eyes, then you can use the following methods:

  • Get special pills that attract insects with their rich aroma. Spiders will try the treat, after which they will die.
  • Plant mint in patches. Its smell will scare away insects if they decide to be based on your territory.
  • Using chemicals to get rid of spiders in the garden or in the greenhouse is undesirable, as they can harm plants.
  • You can purchase special ultrasonic traps and repellers that will help you get rid of not only spiders, but also many other insects.
  • Having found a clutch with spider eggs - destroy it.

How to get rid of spiders

The spiders living in our homes are not so harmful creatures. More likely, on the contrary, they are useful. They do not cause much harm to humans, but they help to destroy moths, flies, cockroaches and other really harmful insects living with us. But who likes the cobwebs in the corners of the room? ..

Getting rid of spiders in an apartment or in a private house is not so difficult. To do this, you will need:

  • crayons (gel) for the extermination of cockroaches;
  • aerosols based on chlorpyrifos or boric acid;
  • aerosols effective in controlling crawling insects;
  • lime;
  • broom;
  • a vacuum cleaner;
  • fine mesh or gauze.

Spiders, like any living thing, need food to live.They feed on cockroaches, flies, two-tails, small insects, ants. Destroy food for spiders, and they will go in search of it to other places. In order to get rid of the insects that settled in your house, apply gel (crayon) gel on the baseboards and walls with continuous strips of cockroaches.

Buy an aerosol from crawling insects, and then treat them with walls, paying special attention to hard-to-reach spots and baseboards. This measure will provide additional assistance in the destruction of the existing spider population.

Gather all the spider webs and burn it. In it, these insects lay their eggs, from which thousands of small spiders come out.

If the house has a basement, it must be cleaned of rubbish, collect all the cobwebs there and whitewash the walls with lime, the smell of which the spiders cannot tolerate. They also do not like the smell of paint, so repairs made throughout the house can expel insects for a long time.

Aerosols, based on boric acid or chlorpyrifos, are available for the direct destruction of spiders. The same aerosols can be used to combat domestic ants. Get one of these tools, treat them with walls, clog all windows and doors. Three hours after treatment, clean dry and wet.

Important!
To prevent the spiders from re-populating your home, conduct regular thorough cleaning, whitewash walls and ceilings in time, tidy up and whiten the basement.

Cover all ventilation openings with fine mesh or gauze. If there are cracks in the windows or baseboards, close them, because it is they that become the paths for spiders to enter the house.

We get rid of the web with a slightly damp cloth wound on a broom. Particular attention is paid to the walls behind the radiators, the rear walls of the furniture, dark corners and areas under the beds. After cleaning, rags with cobwebs must be burned.

You can also remove cobwebs and spider eggs with a vacuum cleaner, but it is better to do this without a brush, only with a single hose.

Next, we set up special store traps in all these places, not forgetting about window sills and places near the doors. Do-it-yourself traps are good - they can just be strips of adhesive tape.

We complete the general cleaning by spraying insecticidal sprays (Raid, Raptor, Joker Bun, Bros, etc.) in the corners and all cracks where arachnids can live. Be careful, as sprays from spiders can harm both you and your pets.

The best budgetary remedy for home spiders is ordinary boric acid, which can be bought at all pharmacies. A weak solution of boric acid is made and wet cleaning is carried out using it.

Folk ways

Many of us have to put up with a hated neighborhood, because we don’t want to spray hazardous chemicals in the house, but why not use proven folk methods?

Advice!
Surprisingly, no matter how popular signs indicate that spiders should be protected, our grandmothers have preserved numerous recipes for how to get rid of house spiders.

All folk methods are based on the fact that spiders hate some smells:

  1. If you apply lime whitewash in the house, then the smell of lime will serve as a real charm from uninvited guests for a long time.
  2. You can spread dried citrus skins or crushed pieces of horse chestnut in all corners.
  3. Effectively smear with essential peppermint oil all the places where they can dwell. Just fresh mint branches suspended in the corners of the house help.
  4. It is good to spray table vinegar with a spray bottle or pour it over small containers and arrange it everywhere in the apartment.

If these options do not suit you, then maybe you should get a cat? Yes, the cute fluffy creature not only purrs beautifully and plays funny with its own tail, but also helps its owners get rid of many insects in the house, and not just spiders.

When there is no escape from the spider

Spiders love to settle in houses and apartments, bringing invaluable benefits: destroying annoying insects. The only harm they can do is clog the walls and corners of the web. Whether or not to get rid of such neighbors is up to you.

Species settled in the dwelling

Many are disgusted or afraid at the sight of spiders, and yet they are quite harmless representatives of the fauna. Often the cause of hostility is ordinary ignorance.

Only a small fraction of spiders are actually dangerous to humans. In the houses and apartments near us, some harmless representatives coexist perfectly: a haymaker, a gray and black domestic one, a tramp spider and a horse.

Each of the species has its own characteristics:

  • Haymakers can be found near the windows or in dry, warm places: pantries, bedrooms. They weave a huge web and hang in it upside down in anticipation of an insect.
  • The dimensions of a gray or black domestic spider do not exceed 2 cm. They are found on window frames, near light bulbs, on walls.
  • Vagabonds do not weave cobwebs, they are always in motion. They quickly attack their victim, inject poison, eat and flee to a new place for the next hunt.
  • Jumping horse - a jumping spider with a picture on the body. He does not eat insects, but prefers to use acacia leaves, which is why he is most often found in the country.

The first spiders appeared on earth about 400 million years ago. Today, around the world there are more than 40 thousand species of these animals.

Attention!
How do spiders get into our houses and apartments? We ourselves bring them on clothes or they make their way into the dwelling through the cracks. They live especially well where there are a lot of insects. If spiders do not find food for themselves, then there will be nothing for them to become our neighbors.

If you are bitten by a home spider, do not be afraid. The only thing that can happen is burning and redness of the skin. Treat the bite site with any alcohol solution or peroxide and everything will pass.

Is it possible to get rid of such neighbors forever

If unwanted guests have settled in your apartment and don’t give you access at all, you should consider how to avoid an unpleasant “neighborhood”. Residents of apartment buildings will have to bring spiders together, as they can easily move from one room to another.

The best way out in this situation is to call professionals who will carry out pest control and relieve the problem. At the time of the sanitation, you will be asked to leave the room, taking your pets with you.

Keep in mind that all the products used are chemicals, so do the following:

  • remove all products;
  • move the furniture;
  • After leaving the specialists, do a wet treatment and ventilate the room well to avoid poisoning.

A single disinsection is not a panacea. There is a high probability that the spiders will return again after some time. Also, keep in mind that spiders are not insects, so some remedies may not work at all.

How to remove insects yourself

If you want to get rid of spiders on your own, first find out why you got them. If the cause is small insects, dispose of them. Close up all the cracks, crevices, so as not to give unwanted guests a chance to get into the house again. In addition, take such measures:

  1. go through all corners and places of accumulation of the web with a broom or vacuum cleaner;
  2. stick the fallen off wallpaper;
  3. hang mosquito nets with small holes on windows and ventilation grills.

Another tip for the inhabitants of a summer house or private home: turn off the light from the outside. Gnats, moths and other small insects attracting spiders fly on it.

Chemical Fighting

The most common means of control is Dobrohim FOS, made on the basis of the active substances chlorperifos and fenthion. The insecticide is effective against ticks and all types of insects.

Important!
For spiders, it also poses a real threat. The chemical disrupts the passage of a nerve impulse, causes convulsions, paralysis and, as a result, rapid death.

Instructions for use:

  • Dilute the product at the rate of 10 ml per 1 liter of water.
  • Take children and animals out of the room.
  • Spray the solution in the habitats of the spiders, trying to get on them.
  • After processing, leave the apartment and leave the windows open.
  • Upon return (no earlier than a day), do a wet cleaning.
  • The duration of the drug is 1-1.5 months.

Another proven tool is Butox 50. It has a wide range of insect-acaricidal action. Once in the body of a spider, it causes paralysis, and then lethargy with a fatal outcome.

The method of use of the drug.

  • Dilute 30 ml of the product in 10 l of water.
  • Spray places of accumulation of spiders.
  • After 20 minutes, ventilate the room and carry out wet cleaning. Repeat if necessary.
  • The duration of the drug is 2 months.

When working with chemicals, be sure to wear protective clothing, a mask and gloves; at the end of the treatment, wash your face and hands with soap.

We expel folk remedies

You can try to destroy spiders in harmless home ways. They do not like pungent odors: citrus, horse chestnut, hazelnut. Grind the fruits and arrange them in places where spiders congregate.

Spiders and the smell of essential oils, such as mint and eucalyptus, do not tolerate. To scare away, use a mixture of oil and water:

  • pour some water into the sprayer for watering the flowers;
  • add 15 drops of essential oil;
  • treat all areas where spiders live with the resulting fluid.

Essential oils are not recommended for people prone to allergies. You can dip the pieces of cotton wool in oil, put them on a plate and put them where the spiders live. For complete disposal, change fragrant repellers every 2 weeks.

Apply fir oil to cotton pads and scatter around the corners. The whole room will smell like needles and spiders will flee.

An unusual folk remedy is sheep's wool. According to reviews, spiders are afraid of its smell. Spiders are very afraid of any fleece, whether it is a thread from a sweater or a scrap of wool itself. Maybe it works, try it.

Vinegar is also effective in combating spiders.

  1. Mix 9% vinegar with water in a 1: 1 ratio.
  2. Pour liquid into the spray bottle.
  3. Spray the spiders and the places where they settled.
  4. Instead of vinegar, you can use lemon juice.

It should be noted that folk remedies for spiders last a short time. As soon as the pungent odor disappears, they can return.

We try insecticides, steam and ultrasound

Modern industry is inventing ever new means of controlling insects and spiders. Sprays in this row take the first place. The most famous of them is Reid.

Advice!
Just spray on a spider from a spray can from a distance of 20-30 cm. The product acts on the residual principle for about four weeks.

When using sprays, observe the following precautions:

  • use the product only indoors, after removing people and animals from it;
  • wear gloves; respirator;
  • after processing, leave the room;
  • at the end of work, wash your hands with soap and water;
  • Remove clothing and wash clothing sprayed.

Another popular modern tool is aquafumigators. They are effective against all types of insects, including spiders. The most famous of them is the Raptor.

During the contact of this product with water, a thermoreaction takes place, pairs of the active substance are formed, which begin to penetrate everywhere, even in hard-to-reach places, and destroy all unwanted residents.

Mode of application:

  • put the aquafumigator in a plastic container with water;
  • leave the room for 2-3 hours;
  • if necessary, re-treat after 2-3 weeks.

The least effective in combating spiders are ultrasonic repellers. According to studies and reviews, in most cases they are simply useless.

Prevention of occurrence

  • spend wet cleaning more often;
  • sweep the web;
  • close up all the cracks on the walls and ceiling;

It is necessary to start fighting spiders by destroying what they usually eat. Having figured out the reason, you will understand how to get rid of spiders in the house.

Important!
These animals feed on small insects, for example, flies, cockroaches, moths, ants, etc. Therefore, it is necessary to treat those areas and surfaces on which they usually crawl and where they live, using special insect repellents.

In addition to destroying food for spiders, they themselves can be poisoned by the chemicals that are contained there. Such products are usually available in the form of chalk, gel or aerosol.

Be sure to destroy the web, which the spiders weaved in your home. Take a rag by wetting it first, then wind it on the squeegee. Using these tools, you should build a web, and it is important that you collect the spiders themselves with it. After that, take a rag to the street, turn it around and destroy it.

To destroy spiders in a private house, you can sprinkle a small amount of boric acid in those corners in which there are usually a lot of them. In addition, you can use various chemicals, which will be based on boric acid or a substance such as clopyrifos.

You can start processing immediately after you eliminate the flow of fresh air into the home. After a few hours, you can ventilate the rooms and begin cleaning.

You can also remove black or gray spiders using a vacuum cleaner. Just remove the nozzle and use a single hose to process the ceiling and floor.

Advice!
Spiders are known to dislike the scent of mint. Just add a small amount of aromatic peppermint oil to the spray bottle and spray the resulting solution in the house.

This procedure requires additional repetition. In addition to peppermint, use the properties of tea tree oil, as well as eucalyptus. Their harsh aroma also scares arthropods.

Chemicals

In the event that with folk remedies you could not get rid of the spiders forever, you can try to remove them with the help of special chemicals, such as:

  1. Butox 50. " This tool is quite simple and convenient to use. However, it is important that you read the instructions on the packaging before use. In general, you should not be afraid of green spiders at all. They will not bring harm to humans. The reason why people are afraid of green spiders is only arachnophobia - fear of these creatures.

Attention!
Such arachnids live in the forest, and you can see them in the greenery, in the garden or in the garden, but they are not at all dangerous. Why did they appear at your place? Most likely this happened by accident, since the conditions of existence in a human dwelling are unlikely to be favorable for them.

At your place, the green spider will simply have nothing to eat, so do not kill it, but rather take it out onto the street.

Is there any benefit?

In fact, spiders do more good than harm. Only a few species of these creatures bite people, but they often destroy harmful small insects - flies or cockroaches. Do not succumb to deceptive fear and try to save the spider by sending it to the street, and do not kill it.

Due to the individual characteristics of this substance, spiders and other insects are seriously injured in direct contact with it, leading to death.

You can also scare away spiders with vinegar.

  • Take some saucers and fill them with water.
  • Add a few drops of acetic acid to each of them.
  • Arrange saucers in places where insects most often appear.

Chestnuts and Hazelnuts. A very unusual effect on spiders is famous for chestnuts and hazelnuts. According to observations, their specific aroma is able to expel insects from home in a short period of time.

  • Take a few hazelnuts or chestnuts and break them into pieces.
  • Arrange the fruits on window sills and in any other places where spiders are found.
  • The very next day, you will not find them in their usual places.

Citrus flavors. Spiders and the smell of citrus, which can be used as a repellent, do not tolerate. To provide such protection, you need citrus juice, which you can buy in the store, giving preference to the product without sugar.

Or squeeze yourself out of fresh fruit. You can also use purchased citrus-flavored air fresheners containing natural citrus oils.

Fill the spray bottle with water and add a few tablespoons of juice to it, or use any of the other remedies with a rich aroma. Treat the resulting surfaces with various surfaces in the apartment (countertops, kitchen cabinets, doorways, window sills).

Before processing painted surfaces, an early check should be carried out for their reaction to such substances. Plastic surfaces cannot be processed with citrus juice; this will lead to their deterioration.

Ground cinnamon. Ground cinnamon, which has a rich spicy aroma, can also be used as an effective repellent against spiders. To do this, sprinkle cinnamon powder in various parts of the room.

Ground red pepper: Hot peppers will help to cope with spiders in the apartment.

  1. Take 30 g of hot red pepper, mix it with 120 ml of vinegar.
  2. Dilute the resulting composition in 1 liter of water.
  3. Pour the odorous liquid into the spray bottle and spray it in the places where the spiders accumulate.
