Cat fleas: how to get rid of parasites at home

Cat fleas how to get rid

Hello! My nephew Semyon is a true animal advocate, actively fighting for their rights, participating in campaigns to select homeless animal owners.

And he says that every cat from the street needs processing. After all, do not pass the kitten with fleas to the potential owners.

A clean and healthy cat has a much greater chance of finding his home. Therefore, I asked him to help me with the materials in the preparation of this article. And the story will go on the following topic: cat fleas - how to get rid.

How to get a flea out of a cat

Cat fleas are wingless insects that feed on blood and, due to the specific shape of their mouth organs, can easily bite through the skin of an animal. These parasites have a body perfectly adapted for movement between the hair (it is flat, and flattened on the sides).

Important!
Also, easy penetration into the wool is facilitated by ridges of spiked bristles, with which the insect's body is covered. In addition, the two hind legs of the parasite (there are six in total) are much better developed than the rest, which allows the flea to jump far and high.

Fleas are able to live without food for about a year and a half, and once on a cat they immediately start a meal: fleas pierce her skin with their jaws and start drinking blood. At the same time, the flea’s stomach is capable of greatly stretching, and therefore this parasite, despite its size, drinks a lot of blood.

Parasitizing on a cat fleas multiply very quickly - the female lays up to 400 oval white eggs daily, in portions of 4-8 pieces. Since the eggs do not attach to the cat’s hair, they fall anywhere: on the sofa, floor, carpet, etc.

Already after 12 days, the fleas in the setback larvae mature, but they can not get out of the cocoons even after a month if there is no cat or cat nearby. If a flea feels the presence of an animal, it instantly crawls out of the cocoon. After this, the flea sooner or later will surely fall on the cat, where it will later mature for another 19-30 days.

After this period, if it is a female, the flea will begin to lay eggs, and if the male, it will fertilize the fleas. Through a fast breeding cycle in just a week or two, up to 200 fleas can parasitize on a cat.

Cats infected with fleas suffer from periodic itching of the skin (a flea, when piercing the skin of an animal, saliva into the wound, which causes allergic reactions). In addition, cats scratch the skin in places of formed wounds, as a result of which scratches form and dermatitis occurs, as well as hair loss.

In kittens, flea infections are even more painful: through the development of anemia, they quickly lose weight, and if there are a lot of fleas, the kitten can die at all.

Immediately after detection of fleas in an animal, the fight against them must be started. Breeding a flea in a cat is not such a simple task, because even now there are no drugs or agents that would kill these parasites at all stages of their development.Therefore, when removing cat fleas, it is necessary to treat not only the cat itself, but also the house and even the garden with antiparasitic agents.

Advice!
There are many such funds, but not every one of them is safe for your cat, because he can lick himself. Therefore, be sure to read the rules for using the drug on the label.

Also, do not mix different products without a previous consultation with the veterinarian, or if the carelessness of such a combination is not indicated on the label of both drugs. For example, bathing in insecticides and a flea collar for cats separately from one another are safe for your pet flea breeding methods, but they can not be used together.

Sometimes a cat may have allergic reactions to substances that the drug contains. If you notice any negative reactions in the animal, immediately buy a cat and show it to the veterinarian.

Flea Remedies

When choosing a means for removing fleas, it is first of all worth looking not at the bright packaging, but at the active substances of the drug. Also, for the effectiveness of the chosen tool, it is worth considering the possible number of fleas on the cat, the age of your pet, the breed of the cat, its home environment (are there any other animals).

All this must be taken into account because, for example, a flea remedy for a cat may not be suitable for use on a kitten.

Flea collar for cats. This option is a fairly popular remedy for fleas in cats, but it is more a preventative than the best option for removing fleas. After all, if he just kills parasites within the neck, then he can not harm those who run away to the tail.

When choosing a flea collar for cats, it is worth considering that in the case of universal collars with the contents of amitrase, organophosphates or permethrinol are not suitable for cats and use, even more - use on cats is prohibited.

Flea Shampoo for cats. A popular means for removing fleas in cats are special shampoos. They are very easy to use, and you can purchase them at any pet store. The use of this tool is very simple - while bathing the animal. In addition, flea shampoos are quite effective, they kill all parasites on the animal.

Attention!
The only thing worth noting - when buying flea shampoos, be sure to check whether it is designed specifically for cats and, if not, so that there are no contraindications for use on cats.

Flea spray for cats. Another good flea remedy for a cat is a spray or aerosol. According to the instructions, these drugs are simply sprayed onto the animal’s hair, after which all fleas die within a certain time (depending on the active substances of the product).

The Murlo website recommends that you be careful when using sprays and aerosols and apply them so that they do not get into the eyes of a cat. Also, after processing the cat's hair, it is necessary to ventilate the room in which the procedure was carried out for 15-20 minutes.

Flea drops for cats. A very popular and quite effective way to remove fleas in a cat are flea drops. This remedy has not only a detrimental effect for these parasites, but also a deterrent effect. The use of drops is very simple: they are applied to the animal’s body once on the skin of the neck.

After this action, fleas die or literally jump from the cat. As a rule, funds for fleas of this type are safe, except for those that contain permethrin - such cats are not allowed to be used.

Flea pills for cats. The last popular treatment option for cats for fleas is pills. The advantage of this tool is the inability to lick the drug with a cat, because the pills "act from the inside."

The principle is simple: the active substances enter the cat’s blood, fleas bite the cat, drink blood, poison themselves and die.Flea tablets can be combined with the other methods described above, then the efficiency of flea elimination will be maximum.

How to get rid?

Before you begin the process of destroying fleas in an apartment, you need to determine the places that you need to handle in a very thorough manner.

Important!
After you managed to remove fleas from a cat, you need to get rid of them in the apartment, because if you do not do this, they will simply wait until the flea remedy ceases to function and then they will again fit into your pet.

Remember - the most suitable places for fleas are: a bed, a carpet, skirting boards, crevices, soft toys, and also places, this is your cat who spends the most time. It is in these places that the procedure for removing fleas must be carried out most thoroughly.

Room preparation

Before you start using the means to destroy fleas, you need to prepare the apartment for processing with these drugs, namely:

  • thoroughly do wet cleaning;
  • remove food from processing points and pack them well;
  • if the apartment contains cold-blooded amphibians or reptiles (lizard, snake), it is necessary to pick them up from the premises;
  • if there is an aquarium - it must be closed, and the compressor turned off;
  • cats and other warm-blooded pets should already be treated for fleas and with flea collars on;
  • after processing, the room must be left for two hours with closed windows and doors, after - well ventilated. In this case, do not clean the next 6-7 days.

Sequencing

The larger your apartment or house, the longer it will take to remove fleas. However, in any case, the sequence of actions should be as follows:

  1. wash personal items, bedding, soft toys and all other fabric items;
  2. pillows, bedspreads, mattresses should be carefully knocked out and preferably hung in the sun. If the latter is not possible - it is worth treating them with a steam generator;
  3. Using a strong disinfectant, thoroughly wash the entire house;
  4. vacuum all beds, sofas, carpets;
  5. treat the entire apartment with a flea remedy;
  6. leave the apartment for 2-3 hours;
  7. return and ventilate all rooms;
  8. then it is worth wiping all work surfaces (tables and so on), and you can unpack the products and open the aquarium;
  9. several days (preferably more than a week) do not carry out cleaning.

If everything is done correctly, these parasites will have no chance and the question of how to remove fleas in a cat will no longer have to be penetrated. Unless, of course, your pet after a while again does not pick them up from some street cat.

Flea funds in the apartment

For the destruction of fleas in the apartment, any remedy against "crawling insects", even the banal "Dichlorvos", can be suitable. However, you should seriously approach the issue of choosing a remedy and find one on which it will write that it is from fleas.

Also pay attention to the active substance of the drug, because some insecticides have different side effects. Note that in the case of aerosol products, one spray can is sprayed approximately 10 square meters.

Micro granular preparations, such as Empire, Effective Ultra, Sinuan, Chlorpyrimark, Biorin, are slightly more expensive, but more professional (and more effective). These funds are much better than household counterparts in terms of validity and safety.

Also do not forget about the vacuum cleaner (it will help to process fleecy surfaces that may contain flea eggs), a standard set for cleaning the apartment (a mop, bucket, water), as well as personal protective equipment (rubber gloves and a respiratory mask). And do not forget to finish the cleaning process with a flea cleaner on the vacuum cleaner itself.

Folk remedies for fleas in cats, cats and kittens

The appearance of fleas in a cat brings discomfort not only to the pet, but also to its owner.Parasites multiply rapidly, and the sooner measures are taken to destroy them, the easier it will be to get rid of them.

Advice!
In veterinary pharmacies, there are a large number of means to combat jumping insects, but in the presence of allergic reactions or a young cat's age, the use of insecticides is not always possible.

Alternatively, you can use folk remedies for fleas in cats. With systematic and proper use, they will help to remove bloodsuckers and prevent re-infection.

Signs of occurrence

Fleas in cats
Fleas in cats

Fleas are ectoparasites that feed on the blood of mammalian animals and humans. They can parasitize on almost any animal, be it a dog, cat, rabbit, rat, and move from one type of animal to another.

In insects, a tiny flattened body, on average, its size varies within 2-3 mm. The color of the chitinous cover is brown with shine. Due to its jumping ability and miniature size, it is very difficult to see a flea.

Ectoparasites are temporary or permanently parasitic individuals on the external organs and skin integuments.

An animal can catch parasites during a walk, or a person, without suspecting it, brings larvae or adults on his clothes, shoes to his apartment.

When a flea hits a cat, it bites its skin and begins to feed, after which the active mating of parasitic adults begins, and the female lays eggs. Under favorable conditions, a new generation of adults will appear in 2-3 weeks.

It is possible to determine that a cat or kitten is concerned about fleas by the following signs:

  • the animal often itches;
  • restlessly sleeping and bouncing during sleep;
  • decreased appetite;
  • a thorough examination of the back, neck, abdomen reveals the vital products of fleas: tiny black excrement, the sticky secret of eggs and the parasites themselves;
  • the appearance of wounds on the skin;
  • in hairless cats it is necessary to wipe the skin with a napkin, the presence of brown spots on it indicates that the animal is concerned about fleas.

Fleas are carriers of various types of diseases and endoparasites - worms. When identifying bloodsuckers on the body of your pet, you need to take care not only about how to remove fleas from the cat, but also to disinfect the entire room.

How to get fleas folk remedies

To save a pet from biting insects with folk remedies at home, two conditions must be met: a systematic approach and a careful choice of remedy. Only with constant processing of wool will parasites be removed and their return avoided. You should pay attention to the components that make up the product, some of them may be more toxic than the insecticide.

Attention!
In addition to caring for a cat, it is necessary to process all cat's items: a house, bedding, toys, rug, as they can contain both adults and their offspring. Ignoring this point, it will not be possible to completely remove fleas. If several cats or cats live in the house, treatment should be carried out simultaneously for all pets, even if only one of them is infected.

Treatment with folk remedies shows a high effect with a small infection and is used in the following cases:

  • cat pregnancy;
  • allergic reactions of the animal to the components of insecticides;
  • animal disease and the use of traditional household products can aggravate the disease;
  • the presence of a kitten in the house.

The removal of fleas at home by folk remedies is a laborious and sometimes lengthy process. The vast majority of products have a deterrent effect that lasts as long as the wool retains the smell of tincture components, shampoo, etc.

There are a number of proven and effective recipes that allow you to successfully deal with annoying insects.Folk remedies for fleas in cats include wormwood, garlic, essential oils and other remedies.

Wormwood against parasites. Wormwood from fleas is one of the most popular folk remedies for fleas in kittens and cats. Its smell repels not only fleas, but also other blood-sucking parasites.

The advantage of wormwood-based drugs is their safety. Wormwood can be used as a remedy for fleas in kittens and not worry about the health of a cat-mother, who will lick her offspring.

20 g of dry or 40 g of fresh leaves of wormwood pour 500 mg of water and bring to a boil, cook for 15-20 minutes. Strain the resulting mixture, cool and anoint all parts of the animal's body. You must be prepared for the fact that during processing insects will actively jump from the cat. Treat your pet as needed.

Wormwood tincture will help get rid of fleas. For its preparation you will need: wormwood, lavender, tansy, eucalyptus, 10 g of each ingredient and one liter of water. Boil the mixture, strain and cool. Ready decoction to anoint the animal itself and all its accessories. The course of treatment is 7-10 days.

Important!
Flea vinegar. The use of vinegar is a very radical measure, but this barbaric method is able to quickly remove parasites. Mix vinegar, ammonia and any floral cologne in equal proportions. The resulting substance is poured into a spray bottle and treated with animal hair.

Then "pack" the cat in a plastic bag, leave your head outside. In this state, keep the pet for 7-10 minutes, then bathe it and carefully comb out the hair to remove all dead fleas. Such a folk remedy for fleas in cats is suitable only for the most patient pets.

Flea garlic. The smell of garlic will provoke a flea to a stampede from their place of deployment. To prepare garlic tincture, grind 6-7 large cloves of garlic with a squeezer and pour 3-4 glasses of water at room temperature. Let it brew for 12 hours.

You can add several teaspoons of brewer's yeast to the tincture. Wipe the cat’s hair with the prepared extract, mainly in those places where it cannot reach. Garlic must not be allowed to enter the digestive tract of an animal in order to avoid digestive upsets and poisoning.

Cat Flea Salt Remedies. Dilute 1 kg of ordinary table salt with a small amount of water and completely dissolve it, to facilitate the process, you can boil the solution.

Then dilute the whole mixture with 10 liters of warm water and wash the animal in it for 5-7 minutes, so that all the wool is saturated with saline. After that, redeem the mewing lump in warm water. This method of removing parasites is also suitable for small kittens.

Flea Shampoo Recipe. Grind or grate the third part of ordinary baby soap, pour 3 cups of water and simmer over low heat until the mixture becomes a jelly-like substance.

Allow time to cool, then add one chopped onion, one egg yolk and a spoonful of nettle infusion. Soap your pet with shampoo and rinse after 15-20 minutes.

Advice!
Geranium Broth. 30 g of geranium and 30 g of lavender pour 3 cups of water and cook for 15-20 minutes. Bathe a cat in a filtered infusion and make sure that the product does not get into the ears, eyes.

Citruses Against Parasites. Unlike many others, the product has a pleasant smell. Cut one lemon and pour it with 2 cups of warm water, leave for 24 hours in a dark place. To spray the pet with the finished preparation from the spray gun.

Essential oils

The safest folk remedies include essential oils. Well proven are oil of cedar, lavender, rosemary, geranium, peppermint and lemon. For spraying the animal, 2-3 drops in 3 glasses of water are enough. Oils are added to shampoos and applied to the collar.

Tea tree essential oil cannot be used to treat fleas for cats. The smell of oil causes the animal to vomit, weakness, dizziness.

Treatment of flea bite wounds

How to anoint a kitten after an attack of parasites depends on the condition of the wounds and the reaction of the animal to bites. If there is no suppuration in the affected area, hydrocortisone ointment will help relieve itching.

In cases of severe combing and the onset of inflammation, chloramphenicol ointment is used. To relieve itching and accelerate healing, creams, which include aluminum, give a good effect.

How to get rid of fleas in a cat at home

Pets are not only a source of food, but also a "transport" for fleas. Coming from the street, a cat can bring on itself very unfriendly “neighbors” and your goal is to eliminate parasites in a short time. Specialized tools are not always at hand, and postponing the procedure for several days, you risk giving the parasites a chance to get comfortable in your home.

Why fleas are considered "universal" parasites

Fleas, the most common type of flightless blood-sucking parasite. Due to the ability to jump, insects travel long distances and even “travel” to different continents. Parasites carry a number of dangerous diseases, it is impossible to protect themselves from them 100% or get rid of them forever. Most flea species can survive 2–3 days of hunger and eat an “unusual” type of blood.

Fleas are super predators and carry an important biological task - controlling the population of mammals. Too active destruction of parasites on the planet can lead to the dominance of a detachment of rodents, as a result - outbreaks of rabies, plague, and typhoid.

From more than 10 thousand species of fleas, only a few varieties of parasites can be distinguished that can parasitize humans or domestic animals:

  • Cat fleas are the most numerous and widespread species. Parasitizes on cats, dogs, people, farm animals. They are able to transmit helminth eggs with saliva, in rare cases they carry typhoid.
  • Dog fleas are more “finicky” in their diet. Able to live on cats and bite people for a short time.
  • Human fleas are “universal”, bite all warm-blooded. They can remain hungry for 1-2 days, “ride” on animals, in their luggage, live in clothes, under the floor, in basements. Transfer a number of diseases dangerous to humans.
  • Rat fleas - differ depending on the habitat. They live on wild and domestic rodents, they can bite people. They became the cause of the black plague epidemic in Europe in the middle of the XIV century.
  • Chicken fleas - not dangerous for humans, but can bite animals. They live and breed exclusively on birds.

Almost all types of fleas can bite a person, but only a few can infect them with viruses. Panic is not worth it, but safety precautions must be observed, especially if a pet lives in your house that goes outside.

Before proceeding with decisive action, one should make sure that it is fleas that are “terrorizing” the cat. The main symptoms of the lesion:

  1. Restless behavior - the cat twitches, bounces on the spot, can not lie down for a long time.
  2. Itching - the animal scratches the body with its hind legs, rubs the front muzzle, nibbles the hair with teeth.
  3. Small wounds - at first noticeable on the chin, neck, face of the animal. When palpating, they feel like small tubercles.
  4. Hair loss for allergies to flea saliva.

Similar symptoms are observed with bedbugs and lesions by subcutaneous mites, but a flea can be detected visually. The insect has a black or brown color, the body is oblong, solid, up to 4 mm in length. Along with parasites in cat's hair, black grains are species - eggs and insect waste products.

When crushing eggs with nails, a characteristic click is noticeable.Begin the examination with the face and ears of the animal, the primary lesion occurs in soft, inaccessible to teeth areas.

Attention!
Optimally, eliminate insects with the help of special veterinary drugs - shampoos, collars or anti-parasitic drops.

However, all insecticidal preparations are toxic, therefore treatment of young, pregnant and lactating cats is unacceptable. If you need to get rid of fleas in a cat with kittens, it is more advisable to use safer folk remedies.

How to eliminate fleas without the use of toxic drugs

First of all, keep in mind that improvised means will not kill, but only scare off the parasites, perhaps they will help to protect against repeated defeat for a short time. In the “soft approach”, the regularity of events and the accuracy of the owner are important.

To get rid of fleas in a nursing cat or kitten, it is necessary to process the wool literally by the hour and carry out the necessary procedures. Otherwise, sexually mature individuals will lay new eggs, the larvae will reborn, and the “matured” clutches will have time to hatch, which will “throw you back a few steps.

The individual sensitivity of the animal is an important and unpredictable indicator. Many “harmless” substances for humans are extremely toxic to cats. Be careful and start processing from a small area of wool, monitor the condition of the animal. Only after making sure that there are no reactions, proceed to the full treatment.

Complete victory is possible only with an integrated approach. In parallel with the treatment of the animal, it is necessary to get rid of fleas in the apartment, regularly treat the cat's lounger and all the tools for grooming. After processing the lounger, it is recommended to put a mattress full of fresh pine sawdust under it.

Fleas are afraid of the smell of pine trees and will not be able to breed in the sunbed. If a dog, rodents and other mammals live in the apartment, flea treatment should be carried out simultaneously for everyone.

Means for processing rooms, household items and animals are completely different in composition!

Important!
Wormwood grass. The smell of wormwood repels herbivorous mammals, birds and insects. Both fresh grass and pharmacy fees are suitable. Boil half a liter of water, rearrange the container on a wooden cutting board, pour 20 grams of collection or 40 grams of fresh leaves of wormwood.

Cover the container and allow to cool completely. Strain the infusion through cheesecloth and pour into a clean container for storage in the refrigerator (no longer than 48 hours). Using cotton sponges or gauze cuts, wipe the pet's hair.

The infusion is safe for licking, if necessary, kittens can be processed. Please note that during the procedure, fleas will actively jump from the animal, therefore it is better to carry out the treatment by placing the animal in a box covered with a white cloth.

The smell of wormwood does not irritate the cat, but it successfully repels parasites hatched in the hair. If you are affected by fleas, the procedure is carried out every 3 days, for the prevention of 1 time in 2 weeks. Clinical studies on the use of wormwood as a means of combating blood-sucking parasites have not been conducted. Also, the method is not recommended for kittens younger than 3 weeks.

Rosemary leaves. For 1 liter of water, two full glasses (250 ml) of fresh rosemary leaves are taken. The broth is cooked over low heat for 30 minutes. The resulting broth will be thick, it must be diluted with warm water and pour along the spine of the pet. Rub the liquid in massage movements and do not rinse off the decoction - it should dry naturally.

Mixtures of herbs. Both infusions are prepared at the rate of 20-30 grams of dried herbs per 1 liter of hot water. The container is closed and wrapped with a towel until completely cooled.

Funds that create unbearable conditions for fleas:

  • Tincture of lavender and geranium - it has a pleasant smell, does not irritate the pet, repels parasites, you can process the hair and lounger of the animal.
  • Eucalyptus, wormwood, tansy, lavender - a “cocktail” that protects against fleas, bugs, ticks, mosquitoes, ants and other insects. It has a persistent smell and can irritate an unaccustomed animal.

Oils. Cedar oil and rosemary are added to animal shampoo or bathing water. Most antiparasitic shampoos contain a cedar extract, it is he who repels fleas after treatment.

Homemade flea collar. The tool is not effective with extensive damage, has a preventive and deterrent effect. You will need a kapron or felt collar, a pipette and one or more oils:

  • Lavender.
  • Lemon.
  • Citronella
  • Eucalyptus.
  • Geraniums.

Do not be zealous! The pet's smell is several times sharper than yours, so 1-2 drops applied to the inside of the collar are more than enough! Be careful, many cats are hypersensitive to essential oils.

Before making a collar, try putting a drop of oil next to the animal’s sunbed (not on the sunbed itself!) And monitor the cat’s reaction.

Advice!
Do not use tea tree oil! Despite the high efficiency, it can provoke poisoning of the animal.

Garlic. A universal natural remedy that causes parasites to “panic” with just one smell. Two medium cloves of garlic are passed through a garlic squeezer and infused in a liter of warm boiled water for 10-12 hours.

The resulting infusion wipes the withers of the animal. The coat should be wet, but not wet! To enhance the effect, brewer's yeast (on the tip of the knife) is added to the infusion.

Do not handle garlic infusion on body parts that the cat can reach when licking! Never add garlic to animal foods. Garlic is toxic to cats and dogs.

Combing out

Perhaps the only method for the defeat of blind kittens and allergies. You will need a shallow comb, good lighting and a lot of patience. The cat needs to be thoroughly combed every day, until the parasites are completely eliminated.

The teeth of the comb comb out fleas, their excrement, larvae and eggs. After each comb, rinse the comb in a container of water and wipe with a light cloth. All trophies are destroyed manually or burned.

Elimination of fleas in adult cats and small kittens

Ridding your cat, cat, or even a very small kitten from fleas and other annoying pests is not at all difficult today. Moreover, the choice of funds against parasitic insects is very wide, and prices do not bite.

The main thing is to understand the means and act according to the instructions and recommendations of specialists. Another point - the treatment of adults is fundamentally different from the treatment of small kittens.

Collar. The easiest and most effective way to remove fleas is the use of an anti-flea collar. The most effective are Harts, Bolfo, Diaz, Kiltiks. The concentration of insecticide with which they are saturated is high enough to kill the vast majority of insects that live on your pet's body. Survivors will leave him very quickly.

The collar destroys even whipworms and ticks, which are extremely difficult to get rid of. This tool is the best option for cats spending most of their time outside the home. However, it still does not provide absolute protection. Therefore, the collar is recommended to be used simultaneously with a special shampoo, as well as a flea spray.

Using a collar is easy: just put the animal on the neck and do not remove for about three months. There are more durable ones: Diaz, designed for 5 months, and Kiltiks, an employee of 7 months. After a specified period, the collar loses its properties, and you need to buy a new one.

The disadvantages of this method are:

  • It can cause irritation (especially in a kitten) at the place of wearing. In some extremely rare cases, the collar even developed dermatitis.
  • The entire period of wearing a collar from your pet comes a specific smell.
  • It happens that animals hardly get used to the collar and feel discomfort from constant wearing.

Drops. Cat / cat fleas can also be removed with drops that are harmful to parasites (they are sold in ampoules). How to get rid of parasites - instructions: it is only necessary to shed slightly liquid on the withers or along the spine - and in a maximum of 12 hours there will be no trace of bloodsuckers.

Attention!
There are drops of a longer and more powerful effect - Front Line Spot on Kat drops, which expel insects during the day. After getting rid of fleas, they protect against relapse for about two months, and from tick infection - 1 month.

The drops are very strong Lawyer from Bayer, eliminating not only fleas and ticks, but also worms. And at the same time - Dana-2 Ultra drops that kill fleas, lice, lice-eaters and ticks. Well-proven drops of "Celandine" of domestic production. True, they have a high degree of toxicity - they are especially dangerous for fish and bees.

Harts drops are already weaker: they cope only with eggs and parasite larvae. To eliminate adult individuals, these drops will not be enough, therefore, you should first treat the cat with a flea-proof spray or wash it with the appropriate shampoo. Suitable for cats, often walking on the street and in contact with their own kind.

Sprays. Sprays give a strong effect, and they are easiest to use. How to remove fleas from a cat using sprays: you just need to spray the pet’s hair and do not let it wash for several hours. Fleas and ticks die instantly. A significant minus of sprays is their toxicity.

The most powerful recognized Front Line. Views on its safety among experts diverge. According to one opinion, this spray is actually safe for animals and is not terrible even for pregnant cats and two-week-old kittens.

But there is an opposite point of view, and it is justified. After all, if the spray instantly destroys insects, it means that it contains at least a small percentage of toxic substances, and therefore it can not be completely toxic.

Therefore, before applying it to pregnant or weakened animals, as well as to cubs, it is worth considering whether it is reasonable to use it in this case or you can do it by other means. In addition to Front Line, Harts, Bolfo Aerosol, Bars, Flea & Tick and Delix are popular among cat owners.

Shampoos. The flea shampoos mentioned above also help in the fight against parasites, but are less common than other remedies, as most cats do not like to swim.

Important!
How to get fleas from a cat with shampoos? They are applied to the cat’s head, ears, neck, hold for 5 minutes, then rinse with warm water. As a rule, rare cats endure this procedure. The best result for shampoos "Insectin", "Bars". Also in demand: “Rolf Club”, “Shampoo B”, “Delix”, “Demos-Lux”, “Flea & Tick Cat Shampoo”.

You can also wash a pregnant cat with flea shampoo, since it, being deadly to insects, is completely harmless to animals. An important point: cats can not be treated with drugs that include permethrin, as well as created for the treatment of dogs.

How to treat a kitten

It all depends on the age of the kitten and on how close it is in contact with the mother.

If he feeds on breast milk, and the cat constantly licks him, then the choice of treatment methods is limited. After all, after treatment with a powerful drug, insecticides remain on the wool, after licking, they enter the cat's body, and from there with milk - into the cub’s stomach, as a result of which it can become poisonous.

In this case, two basic methods are acceptable:

  1. Constant and diligent combing out of insects;
  2. Shampooing (for kittens, not for adult animals).

Kitten up to a month. The parasites are combed out with a soft scallop, subsequently crushing the harmful insects. They can also be placed in a warm solution of a cleaning agent, where fleas and ticks will die immediately.

The method is effective, but requires patience and time. However, blind suckers can only be rid of fleas.For a cat in position, combing is also suitable.

Advice!
Pet month. They have been bathing with shampoo since the age of one month. It is desirable that nevertheless it was a kitten weaned from the mother. The most harmless and, at the same time, effective of all shampoos known on the world market is the Swiss shampoo “Mr. Kiss. "

It is used as follows:

  • Dilute 1 ml of shampoo in 300 to 400 g of water, then stir until a foam forms.
  • The kitten is immersed in water, but so that it does not get into the mouth, nose, eyes.
  • The shampoo solution is kept on the wool for about 4 minutes, after which it is washed off thoroughly with warm water.

In two months. What is needed in order to bring a flea from a kitten 2 months old? A two-month-old kitten is recommended to be washed with Fitoelita shampoo. It gives great results and is also suitable for adult cats.

If the kitten is older than a month and completely isolated from the mother (completely - it means no contact with the mother at all and living in another territory), the range of treatment options is already much wider.

You can turn to drops, and powder for kittens, and spray, as well as Beaphar powder. She is sprinkled with wool, then rubbing her fingers into the skin of the kittens.

At three months. A three-month-old kitten is already considered a teenager. Therefore, it can be safely treated as an adult animal by all the methods mentioned in the article, including the Hartz collar.

What else needs to be done

Cat fleas how to get rid of them

Cat fleas can be dangerous for humans. Fleas in cats can appear even if it does not walk by itself. Most often, fleas in a cat or cat appear in the summer. And then the problem of how to remove fleas in a cat becomes vital!

Attention!
The most interesting thing is that fleas do not live on animals, but in the house. On a cat, they only feed and breed.

The presence of fleas in cats is revealed very simply: it itches, and you can personally find these nasty parasites in her hair. And this means that they can bite not only the cat, but also its owners.

Cat fleas are dangerous for humans, not by themselves, but because they suffer a number of serious diseases: tularemia, salmonellosis, hepatitis B and C, typhoid, plague and others. Not to mention the introduction of infection into comb and allergy by us.

We can bring fleas into the house ourselves - on our legs and trousers, picking them up on the street, in the neighbor’s yard, in the entrance or in transport. They are jumping - a flea can jump to a half-meter height.

Fleas so gnaw at the poor cat that wounds and scabs form on his body under the hair. The cat itches, wool and scabs from scabs scatter around the apartment, fall into house dust, which increases the likelihood of allergic reactions ...

I try to beat fleas with physical methods - with my nails (and my eldest son has adapted to do this with surgical crowns: only insects cluck), but the cat does not always perceive this adequately.

True, if fleas already get it at all, sits calmly - it can be turned over in any position, will be patiently perceived, if only they would get rid of fleas. It would seem: what does he understand ...

I also bought collars - the result is dubious. At least with my cat.
I bought the last flea collar quite expensive - with herbal remedies, without chemistry. The result - fleas gathered in the collar area, they had to be knocked out by the most physical impact. Probably they liked the smell, perhaps ...

Important!
I will not give here the most diverse flea remedies that can be bought at a veterinary pharmacy. You can read about them on specialized sites.

Please note that after bathing cats need to dry quickly, even in summer, as they catch a cold quickly.It’s best to blow dry if the cat isn’t protesting (my cat feels and hides under the sofa when the hair dryer or vacuum cleaner sounds).

It’s especially easy for cats to freeze their bladder and kidneys - an unfinished cat will crawl under a sofa onto a bare linoleum, and you're done. I want to make a reservation right away: everyone chooses his own path. And I in no way will not defend the advantage of folk remedies over chemical means.

But one thing is certain: folk methods do not contain poisons and other substances harmful to humans. Recall how several decades ago we widely used dust DDT, including at home. And then it turned out that it accumulates in the body with all the ensuing consequences.

It will take another dozen years, and who knows what the now widely advertised chemicals for controlling blood-sucking insects will turn into?
