Mold appeared in their apartment, and I have successfully coped with this business more than once. So it happened this time. Want to know how to remove mold from the walls in an apartment? How to get rid of it quickly? Now for you I will describe everything in maximum detail.

How to remove mold and mold from walls?

Mold and mold are a real misfortune in the house, but, fortunately, using ordinary cleaning products, you can not only remove the mold, but also prevent its reappearance.

Whether it is mold on walls or other surfaces, such as a floor or carpet, its appearance is a distress signal for your health, therefore it is very important to deal with the root of the problem.

What is it and why is it formed on the walls?

Mold is a type of fungus that develops from airborne spores. It usually appears in humid, warm conditions with a limited flow of air. That is why mold and attics are often the victims of mold.

Important!
The reason for the appearance of mold is most often high humidity and lack of ventilation, but sometimes mold on the walls can be caused by leaking water pipes, both inside and outside the house. Poorly insulated pipes can also accumulate moisture inside the walls.

Mold fungus is the most typical type of mold in the form of black spotted plaque on the walls. If you do not take such black mold on time, the fungus can spread to large areas of the surface, if you do not start to fight it in time. To find out if this particular type of mold has settled on your walls, take a rag and apply bleach to the affected area.

If the darkening began to lighten after a few minutes, you are faced with mold. Otherwise, most likely you are dealing with ordinary dirt.

We clean in 3 stages

Mold can cause allergic reactions and malaise, so if you are dealing with severe mold damage to the walls, it is best to seek help from professionals.

If you decide to get down to business on your own, always wear safety glasses, gloves and a mask, as contact with mold spores can be harmful to your health.

Open windows or turn on the fan, if you have one.

  1. Prepare a solution of chlorine bleach and water in a ratio of 1: 3 or take a cleaning agent that contains an active whitening component.
  2. Using a stiff brush, rub the area darkened by mold, removing mold stains from the walls, wallpaper, and ceiling.
  3. Rinse and dry thoroughly.

If you still haven’t been able to get rid of mold, there are special powerful tools to combat mold and mildew, but remember: in no case should you mix different cleaning products, since their interaction can cause a dangerous chemical reaction!

How to prevent the occurrence: 6 practical tips

If you have already dealt with the prevalence of mold on your walls, the next necessary step is to prevent its return once and for all. There are the following options for this:

Buy a specialized product. An antimicrobial spray, for example, can prevent re-settling of mold spores on the surface. You can also purchase anti-mold paint at your home or hardware store.

Advice!
Consider installing an electric air dehydrator for areas of your apartment that are particularly vulnerable to mold. For long-term mildew elimination, this option is ideal.

It may be worth updating the thermal insulation system in your home. Sometimes poor thermal insulation is the root of the problem. Qualitatively insulated walls and ceilings are much less susceptible to condensation, and hence the formation of mold.

The surest solution to the mold problem is to get rid of the moisture that mold spores love so much:

  • Keep bathrooms, kitchens and other wet areas well-ventilated and as dry as possible.
  • Extend shower curtains and towels to dry.
  • Combat leaking plumbing without delay, to avoid moisture accumulation in cracks and under the floor.

Do not worry if mold and mold have reappeared on your walls: this is a typical occurrence, but this time you are properly armed to deal with it.

Mold on walls and wallpapers: getting rid of in 2 steps

Mold appears as a result of maturation of mold spores, by the way, in a small amount they are transported together with dust through the air. Ideal conditions for the development of these fungi are high humidity and poor ventilation.

Step 1: eliminate the causes of high humidity

Before deciding how to remove mold, you need to find out and eliminate the causes of high humidity. They are distinguished by several:

  • Lack of ventilation and super-tight plastic windows cause high humidity in the room.
  • Mold on the wallpaper occurs due to miscalculations in the construction of the house or errors in the repair.

It must be clearly understood that molds pose a certain threat to humans. They can cause intoxication, allergies and even cancer. Therefore, having noticed the slightest signs of infection, immediately begin an active struggle.

Step 2: remove mold and fungus

If you intend to simply wash the wallpaper from mold, you will be disappointed. With old wallpaper you need to say goodbye forever. However, replacing the wallpaper may not protect against the appearance of new foci of the fungus. The reason for this is the formation of mold under the wallpaper on the wall.

Spores eat into the very structure of the wall and cause mold stains. Let's figure out how to properly remove mold. For this you will need: a sponge, putty knife, sandpaper, gloves, a respirator, antiseptic solution, a solution to remove mold.

So, for starters, we completely free the walls from wallpaper. Using a spatula, we clean the areas affected by mold. Loose plaster (some black mass) must be removed completely.

Then carefully, using sandpaper, we clean the infected areas. And finally, we treat the entire wall with a fungicidal solution. After five to six hours, repeat this procedure. Experts advise to carry out such processing four to five times.

We prime the surface of the walls with an antiseptic solution. After this we proceed to the plaster. Putty walls and glue new wallpaper. By the way, it is the incorrect preparation of the walls before wallpapering that is often the cause of the development of mold.

How to save your home in the future

Now let's figure out how to protect your home from the reappearance of mold.

The most common reason for the spread of mold is considered to be insufficient ventilation of rooms. Check the draft in your ventilation ducts with a lit match. If the match flame does not deviate at all to the side of the channel, then there is no draft. To eliminate this problem, you need to contact the district communal service.

Attention!
Another reason for poor ventilation may be plastic windows with increased tightness. By installing ventilation valves on the windows, you can ensure the supply of fresh air. Do not put the furniture close to the walls that are covered with wallpaper, as it is in such closed places that mold appears.

To prevent mold from appearing under the wallpaper, use frequent ventilation of the room. Window panes and windows in the house are better to periodically open for a small period of time. It is desirable to paint the jambs of window openings with hydrophobic paints.

Poor insulation of the gaps between the panels, increased dampness of building materials and other repair flaws can also cause increased humidity and the formation of fungus.

Ordinary rain, not flowing down the drains, but directly on the outside of the wall of the house, can lead to its getting wet through. In such cases, ask the residential office to resolve the problem.

How to remove mold from the wall in the apartment?

Contrary to popular belief, mold on walls and ceilings can easily appear not only in neglected buildings, but also in very solid structures that undergo regular maintenance and care.

And this is no accident, because the main sources of infection - spores of mold and fungus in a small amount can move in air currents together with dust and settle on a variety of structural elements of the walls, creating problem foci.

Moreover, in addition to aesthetic restrictions, the development of mold can also cause more negative consequences associated with premature destruction of structural elements and a deterioration in the well-being of residents. Intestinal diseases, allergies, asthma - this is not a complete list of threats, than such a deviation can be dangerous.

Naturally, before starting the fight against such a dangerous "enemy" as mold, it is necessary to study the causes of its occurrence in order to nullify the likelihood of such a deviation in the future.

The main condition for the occurrence of black mold on the walls in the apartment is considered to be excess moisture, which is the result of poor ventilation, which is why the primary action in the fight against parasites should be to ensure optimal air exchange in the room.

Important!
Why resort to cleaning the existing ventilation ducts, installing supply air valves, installing modern heating systems, adjusting the plastic windows in the winter.

In addition, the occurrence of mold can occur due to excessive cooling of the enclosing structures (freezing), which should also be taken into account in advance, even before the work is completed. Why, in most cases, they produce insulation of floors, walls and foundations by using special heat insulators.

Among the indirect causes of mold, leakage of the roof, deterioration of the tightness of water supply and sewer systems, and errors during construction operations are distinguished.

From the mold on the walls, many try to get rid of faster, and some only think, not realizing the deplorable danger that can pose both a human body and the entire structure of the home and household items.

So, let's take a closer look at the hidden threat, what is the danger of mold in the apartment:

  • Dampness is a catalyst for many respiratory diseases. Spores of microorganisms entering the human lungs can cause a number of diseases such as rhinitis, sinusitis, tracheitis, laryngitis, pneumonia and even bronchitis. And with the systematic inhalation of polluted air, it can lead to bronchial asthma.
  • Fungal microorganisms can cause a variety of skin diseases, such as dermatosis, mycosis, dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis.
  • Mold, namely their fungal spores, are strong allergens, penetrating the respiratory tract, they cause a number of serious diseases, from simple conjunctivitis to respiratory allergic dermatosis.
  • The fungus and mold that lives in the bathroom is dangerous because it can settle on personal care products and items, thereby causing diseases such as candidiasis and stomatitis.
  • The mold in the apartment can enter the human body through food. Accumulating toxins in the human body that cause kidney damage and develop cirrhosis.
  • If a high number of toxins enters the body, a disease such as foodborne mycotoxicosis can occur. It is dangerous because it causes such ailments as nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, but more toxic substances affect the nervous and cardiovascular systems, causing sleep disturbance and depression.
  • The most dangerous metabolic products of fungi are aflatoxins, which cause a serious illness like aflatoxicosis. Accumulating, this substance in the body of an adult can cause cell mutation, and later oncological diseases. Children can be fatal.
  • Among other things, mold is not limited to the human body. It causes tremendous material damage, destroying the structure of walls and building and finishing materials (concrete, stone, wallpaper, leather), especially structures and wood products.
  • The fungus actinomycete deeply penetrates the materials, thereby it is almost impossible to get rid of it.

This is an incomplete list of all pathologies, black mold in the apartment, what is dangerous. To maintain health for yourself and your loved ones, do not wait for the next repair, try to get rid of it as soon as possible.

After identifying and eliminating the causes of the occurrence of these deviations, proceed to the direct implementation of restoration operations, such as the removal of finishing materials from the affected areas and the treatment of wall protecting walls with an antiseptic.

It is sad, but in the fight against mold fungus can not do a trivial way, remove it with detergents. Indeed, in most cases, the spores of the parasite deeply eat into the building envelope, causing their slow but sure destruction.

That is, the first step, to get rid of mold in the apartment, should be the dismantling of all finishing materials in the area of the outbreak. However, to exclude the intensive spread of the fungus, before removing the old wallpaper from the walls, or removing the paintwork, it is recommended to moisten the surfaces with a warm water composition.

In addition, at the indicated stage, care should be taken to revise the basis of the wall, because depending on the degree of damage, it may be unsuitable for further use.

For these purposes, it is necessary to check the mechanical strength of materials (wood, plaster) and, if necessary, get rid of damaged areas (in excess) using a set of standard construction devices. But even if the base bases do not differ in loose structure, it is very important to sand all infected areas with sandpaper.

Advice!
After carrying out preparatory operations, they begin to get rid of mold directly, for which all problem areas are covered with fungicide compounds in several (4-5) layers.

Moreover, the application of each subsequent layer should be done only after the previous coating has completely dried (usually the period is 5-6 hours), using soft brushes or a spray gun for these purposes.

In addition to fungicides containing boron compounds, it is recommended to apply a primer with special antiseptics on the walls in advance, and only after that make the final finishing of the premises by plastering the walls, puttying or painting.

Although today the construction chemistry market is represented by a wide variety of drugs that can effectively combat the formation of fungus, when choosing the most suitable antiseptic for your case, you need to consider not only the place of work, but also the type of dispute that will have to be fought (which may require expert advice) .

Whereas, as the universal components for mold control, the following agents can be distinguished.

Anti mold
Anti mold

In addition, to solve the presented problems, paints and construction materials with antiseptic components are being actively introduced today, which minimizes the risk of mold subsequently.

If a small area of walls or household items was affected by mold and fungus, then the most profitable option is to get rid of it, using the proven improvised (folk) means. Of course, they cannot be compared with highly toxic drugs in terms of effectiveness, but at least in this case they will completely cope with the task.

Bleach. To deal with all types of mold in the house, ordinary bleach will do just fine. A deadly substance for mold spores is sodium hypochlorite, which is contained in the composition. Bleach is suitable only for cleaning smooth and hard surfaces (tiles in the bathroom, glass, furniture).

Bleach is diluted in a proportion of one to ten, and then applied to the infected surface using a spray, rags or brush. For reprocessing, wait until completely dry.

Vinegar. It has a specific and pronounced smell, which characteristically does not emit vapors hazardous to human health. In order to remove mold and fungus, you need to apply it in its pure form to the lesion using a spray, and after about an hour, rinse the surface with water and ventilate the room. For prevention, it is advisable to spray the treated place with vinegar for some time.

Hydrogen peroxide. You can remove the mold on the walls in the apartment with hydrogen peroxide. Such an antibacterial agent is available at any pharmacy. This drug does not contain toxins and is odorless.

Attention!
It perfectly removes fungus on many materials, but you need to be careful with painted surfaces, as it tends to bleach them. The processing process is as follows: we take a 3% composition of peroxide and with the help of a sprayer we carefully treat the wall, give 10 minutes for impregnation, then proceed to cleaning and washing the area.

Laundry soap and urine. Great for removing mold from wooden surfaces. To do this, prepare a mixture of urine and soap crushed on a grater. Next, we give the finished solution to stand for about a day. Then, after processing, the material should be allowed to dry, and then the remaining solution should be washed off.

Tea tree oil. Such a tool is suitable for removing small affected areas. Prepare a solution in proportion to one to fifty water. The processing process with this tool is very simple, the solution is applied to the moldy area using a spray gun, and then it is allowed to dry naturally.

Copper sulfate. The most famous folk remedy to remove black mold from the walls. A solution is prepared in the ratio of one hundred grams of vitriol per ten liters of water. Processing can be done with a spray or brush. It is not advisable to use it if you intend to glue wallpaper on the treated area, since copper sulfate leaves a blue coating after itself.

Borax. It is considered a leader in the removal of mold and fungus from the above methods. Borax is a material of natural origin and is absolutely not dangerous to human health.

Dilution consistency with water one to ten. Apply to affected areas with a stiff brush. Finishing the treated area should only be started after the surface has completely dried.

In order for the question of how and how to remove mold from the wall in the apartment in the future not to bother the property owner, it is advisable to adhere to a number of standard recommendations. Use specific components to remove mold only taking into account the requirements of the manufacturer and based on individual factors.

The best ways to remove mold from wallpaper so that it does not occur again

Noble mold occurs only on cheeses, and if black mold appears on wallpaper, on walls, you will not envy the owners of the house. Small dark dots in the corners of rooms grow very quickly and not only walls, but also ceilings, and even some things in the house are covered with black-green stains.

How is it harmful to human health?

A persistent characteristic smell is established in an apartment or house, it’s even scary to look at mold on the walls - there’s no need to talk about coziness and comfort, since even a grayish coating appears on clothes. Mold, fungus, mold fungi - there are many names, but there is one problem.

There are several types of mold that may appear in your apartment building under favorable conditions:

  • Green - it is most often found that it is and you can not be afraid of it, because if you know how to properly remove mold from the wallpaper, it will disappear quickly enough.
  • Dark green is more problematic, but it is removed simply if it is immediately identified and started to act immediately.
  • White, looking like fluff - can spread almost imperceptibly, for a short period of time it affects the whole apartment. With a white look, you can not hesitate, it is very dangerous for humans and it must be removed very carefully - only with gloves and a respirator.
  • Black - can cause serious disorders in the immune system of a weakened human body. It is the most dangerous of all types of domestic mold, grows rapidly, it is difficult to remove. It will have to be processed with special chemical mixtures; at the end of work, prevention is important so that the black fungus does not settle on your walls again.

If any type of mold on wallpaper, walls, ceilings affects more than 20% of the entire area, we can talk about massive infection of the housing and it is considered unsuitable, dangerous for people and pets.

The harm from mold to humans is as follows:

  • Allergies, headaches, skin problems, conjunctivitis, stomatitis, suffocating cough.
  • Mold spores can easily enter the body and settle on the mucous membranes of the respiratory system. Not only a chronic runny nose appears, but severe pulmonary diseases can also occur.
  • A long stay in an infected house weakens the immune system, especially in children and elderly residents, so chronic diseases often worsen, and other health problems are found.

The causes of the appearance of black fungus in residential premises

It will never work to completely remove mold from the wallpaper, if you do not know its causes and do not completely localize the focus of the spread of fungal spores. There are only two main reasons - dampness and poor ventilation, as derivatives of this may be the following causes of black mold on the wallpaper in the house:

  1. Plastic windows - their design is such that there is no influx of fresh air if you do not regularly air the rooms or if the windows do not have a special forced ventilation system.
  2. You live on the first floor and at first the joints of the walls are affected by the fungus, and then mold under the wallpaper already appears. The problem is that there is a basement under your apartment and it is likely to be flooded and a lot of moisture is concentrated in it.
  3. You are the owner of the dwelling on the top floor, there is only a roof above you and the problem is in it, as it leaks. If the house is a panel, then at the joints the humidity can spread along the floors below.
  4. The waterproofing of the external walls and interpanel seams is poorly performed. This is the first time you notice black dots on a wallpaper with the onset of cold weather, when there is no heating yet, and the weather is cold and rainy.
  5. Your home has just finished renovating and retains residual moisture after finishing work. Hurry to finish the repair before the fall or re-glue the wallpaper already when the central heating is on.
  6. Initially, the fungus appeared in the bathroom, where it was not only humid, but also warm, and the ventilation was poor. Heat and moisture at the same time - under such circumstances, you must always have powerful ventilation, since the occurrence of mold in this case is only a matter of time.
  7. On your window sills there are a lot of indoor plants that require frequent watering, and this causes increased humidity in the room.

In addition, no one is safe from the fact that neighbors from above can have a flood. Water did not spill towards you, but all the walls were saturated with damp.

Important!
You may not even know what happened, and you will not understand for a long time why the mold appeared on the wallpaper in the apartment.

If in country houses the main problem is it is difficult to heat housing, then in apartments the most common reason for the appearance of the fungus is from the outside, well, and the poor ventilation mode too.

Can I get rid on my own?

If mold has spread on the wallpaper, what should I do first? With good ventilation of the house and the removal of moisture in it, and in a cold room, this is impossible to do, so we seek warm dry air in the house. Suitable for this are special ionizers, and dehumidifiers, and ordinary household fireplaces and even hair dryers.

Next, we look for the causes of the problem and, based on the size of the infected areas, we calculate the options whether it will be possible to remove mold from the wallpaper without ripping them off. You must understand that if there is a black fungus on the wallpaper, then there will also be mold under the wallpaper.

In this case, all measures to remove plaque will have a temporary effect, but this is also good, since not everyone has the strength and the ability to immediately start repairs with the removal of infected plaster and applying a new one.

Mold can be absorbed through the skin, so do not touch it with bare hands. All work is carried out in rubber gloves and a good respirator. Get rid of mold on the wallpaper does not work at one time. It is important to create a protective layer on the walls, and this is a serious repair and the use of special building antiseptics.

If the area of the affected walls is large enough, it is advisable to seek help from a special company, as in the end it will be cheaper than regular cosmetic repairs. Also, having no experience in carrying out fungus removal, you can only shake a huge amount of spores and mold will spread to other rooms.

Folk remedies

We must prepare for the fact that this work will be carried out several times in order to obtain a positive result. We will use the means that are always at home at hand.

Advice!
Baking soda is good because it is inexpensive, non-toxic and it is easiest to wash mold from wallpaper. Let's prepare a soda solution (1 teaspoon per glass of warm water) and remove the deposits with a soft sponge. After processing the walls do not need to be washed off additionally with water. The result from soda lasts a long time.

Table vinegar is applied to a rag or poured into a spray bottle and the infected walls are treated. It is a weak acid and therefore many types of domestic mold are very easily removed. At the end of the work, after about 1 hour, all surfaces simply need to be wiped with water and a good ventilation of the house.

Hydrogen peroxide is valued as an antifungal agent and can be used in cases where there are allergies or pets in the house, since the drug has no smell. You must understand that peroxide has a whitening effect, so you should compare all the harm and benefits of using hydrogen peroxide on some types of wallpaper.

Ammonia is also used, but it is better to use them for non-porous surfaces - tiles, glass or wood. In its pure form, the product is not used, it must be diluted in half with water.

Chlorine-containing household chemicals - White, Domestos and others. In professional remedies for fungus, chlorine is always in the composition, therefore, home remedies with chlorine will be effective, but not so toxic. The bleach is diluted with water in a ratio of 1:10 and the walls are treated.

We decide on such a procedure only if we are sure that the decorative layer of wallpaper will not be damaged and no one in the apartment will suffer from the suffocating smell of bleach.

Folk remedies for mold are effective only with small areas of damage. How to remove mold from the wallpaper and under the wallpaper during mass infection?

You will have to completely remove the damaged wallpaper, remove the infected plaster, treat the walls with special primers from fungus, apply the plaster again, but even then the house will not be protected from molds if it is not kept dry and regular ventilation is established.

What to do to prevent the fungus from appearing again?

Anyone who has already encountered the problem of the appearance of black fungus on the walls of their own house or apartment and knows how difficult it is to remove mold from the wallpaper will constantly be afraid that it will appear again. And this will definitely happen if you do not adhere to the following simple rules for the prevention of mold:

  • Regularly ventilate the home, improve the ventilation system.
  • In the kitchen, while cooking, be sure to include a hood over the stove. Never forget that steam, condensing on wallpaper and other finishing materials, can easily provoke the development of a colony of moldy fungi.
  • Prevent condensation from settling on metal-plastic windows, and this can be solved by installing a special valve that will regulate the constant flow of air.
  • Cover the window slopes with water-repellent paint.
  • Do not push all furniture close to the walls. Let there be an air gap of 2-3 cm between the walls and the rear walls of the furniture.
  • At the slightest sign of water leakage from the outside, sound the alarm - contact the appropriate authorities for help until the problem is so great.

Your actions when mold appears

Mold is very harmful to human health, as well as to materials and building structures. Her destructive actions are menacing. No one is safe from her, and many are already waging a long and painful war with her, surrendering their position by centimeter by centimeter.

  1. Determine the type of mold.
  2. Identify a possible cause of occurrence.
  3. Discover the source of the appearance.
  4. Choose a way to fight for yourself.
  5. Eliminate the cause of the occurrence.
  6. Carry out the necessary mold removal measures.
  7. Protect the structure or surface from it.
  8. Perform preventive preventive actions so that it does not appear in the future.

The main ways to remove mold:

  • Direct mold removal. The removal technology is described below. This is a less time-consuming and less expensive process, but the effect of it is temporary.
  • Elimination of the cause of the appearance of mold (fungus), and then its complete removal. This process requires a lot of effort, time and money, but is more justified.

As you already understood, the appearance of mold is a consequence.Certain favorable conditions have arisen for its appearance and existence - this is the reason. No matter how much we eliminate the investigation, that is, the mold itself, it will still appear again and again. Just removing it will save you only for a while. Over time, she will appear again.

Attention!
Therefore, decide whether you want to remove it for a while or get rid of it forever.

If you are going to sell an apartment or a house, or you have a very difficult situation with money, then you can choose the first option. He will relieve you of black mold for a while. Then, you can repeat it over and over to infinity.

If this is your home, you are going to live happily ever after in it, I insist on the second option. Eliminate the cause of the appearance, and then destroy it forever!

Elimination of the cause of appearance

  • High humidity in the room
    • Remove moisture sources in the room. Eliminate water leaks at the junction of water pipes and sewers, in taps.
    • Heat all rooms in the house in winter.
    • In order to prevent the appearance and removal of mold in the basement or cellar, carry out a series of works to drain the room and its waterproofing to protect it from ground and melt water.
    • Install an air conditioner with technologies that prevent mold from growing inside it.
  • Lack of ventilation
    • Make, restore or clean the ventilation in the kitchen, bathroom and toilet.
    • Make ventilation in the basement.
    • Install windows with opening sashes in the rooms, if you do not have them.
  • Subcooling (freezing) of walls
    • Insulate walls and slopes outside.
    • If it is not possible to insulate from the outside, insulate the walls from the inside, but be sure to insulate.
  • Wall cracks
    • Close all cracks on the walls from the outside and from the inside.
    • Plaster the repaired wall on both sides, using reinforcing stucco mesh.
    • If the damage is significant, contact your local housing authority
  • Cracks around the window box and under the windowsill
    • Close up all the cracks in the joints around the window box on the outside and inside.
    • Plaster the slopes around the window box from the outside and from the inside.
    • Ebb if not there.
    • Seal the joint between the ebb and the window box with sealant.
  • Poor sealing of interpanel joints
    • Seal interpanel joints from the outside (you will need the services of professionals).
    • Make insulation of interpanel joints from the outside.
  • Poor roof sealing
    • Carry out a set of works on waterproofing the roof.
    • Repair roof leakage.

DIY black stain removal

The main means to remove all its species are antiseptics.

Antiseptics are chemicals that have an antifungal effect. There are water-soluble antiseptics, as well as those that are diluted with white spirit or turpentine. There are oil-based antiseptics.

There are many such means. However, there are no universal ones. When buying, be sure to ask what it is used for.

The choice of antiseptic

  1. Read and read the label very carefully.
  2. Pay attention to the hazard class. It must be specified and be at least 4.
  3. Follow all manufacturer warnings.
  4. Do not use products that indicate "do not allow contact with exposed skin", "do not allow contact with clothing", "do not breathe fumes." These compounds are hazardous to health.
  5. Do not use products without instructions in Russian.
  6. Read the instructions for the use of antiseptics.
  7. Pay attention to the purpose of the tool.
  8. Consult on the possibility of applying finishing materials to the antiseptic.
  9. Check the protective properties of the antiseptic.
  10. Check production date and expiration date.
  11. Ask for a hygiene certificate.
  12. Do not use formulations to be mixed.
  13. Do not use disinfectants to control the fungus.
  14. Check out an article on mildew removal using 8 popular mold control agents on walls and ceilings.

Direct fungus removal

If there are no large foci of mold, you can clean the moldy surfaces with a detergent with water and then dry thoroughly.

If the surface is very moldy, then:

  • Rinse off the whitewash, remove the wallpaper, paint, oilcloth, tile and so on from the infected surface.
  • With a metal brush, spatula or using the necessary power tools, remove the layer of plaster.
  • Dry the surface. If it is brick or concrete, then blow dry with a blowtorch or gas burner. If it is a wooden surface, dry it with a fan or heater, in which the fan is integrated. Mold is best removed in summer, in hot, dry weather, and on well-dried surfaces.
  • Clean the surface with a cleanser.
  • Use a brush or roller to apply mold remover. To destroy it, treat not only the areas that are affected, but the entire room, as spores are present in the air of the infected room in high concentration. They can infect an unprotected surface in another favorable place for this and your struggle will repeat again.
  • Apply an antiseptic primer to the surface.
  • Apply a waterproofing mixture to the surface with a brush or roller. Prepare the mixture in advance from a dry waterproofing mixture. Use ready-made formulations.
  • Apply a deep penetration primer on waterproofing.
  • Plaster, and then plaster the surface, if it is a wall or ceiling.
  • Fill the screed if it is the floor.
  • Re-prime the surface with deep penetration primer.
  • Paste the wallpaper, paint the walls, whitewash the ceiling, lay tiles, linoleum, laminate, parquet and so on.

Work Precautions

During the removal of fungus, use special tools:

  • gloves
  • protective glasses,
  • respirator,
  • a robe or a robe,
  • kerchief or cap.

Work with antiseptics only with good ventilation and in the absence of people, especially children.

Mildew Prevention

In order to avoid further tedious struggle with mold, constantly carry out preventive measures and monitor the condition of your premises:

  • Heat the premises well in the cold season.
  • Monitor the condition of the water and sewer pipes.
  • Keep track of floor, wall, and ceiling conditions.
  • Monitor the condition of the roof.
  • During repair or construction, use a stucco made of lime-cement composition. Such plaster absorbs less moisture than lime, and, accordingly, is less likely to form mold.
  • Be sure to treat building and finishing materials from wood with an antiseptic (preferably better).
  • Always install hinged plastic windows. They must have an outlet for air circulation. Monitor the condition of window blocks, take care of the windows.
  • Ventilate the rooms constantly and thoroughly, opening all windows.
  • Do not close the bathroom door so that humidity and temperature can even out.
  • Be sure to ventilate wet and dry wet clothes before hiding them in the closet.
  • Reduce the number of indoor plants.
  • Do not dry laundry in an unventilated area.
  • Do not store dried flowers indoors. They have mold in them.
  • Always wipe damp areas with a dry cloth.
